In a rare discussion of his relationship with Buganda’s Kabaka Mutebi, President Museveni yesterday said he appreciated the cultural leader but had problems with those who assign him a political role.

“Mixing politics and culture caused the 1966 crisis. We should not allow such tensions to happen again,” Mr Museveni told a fundraiser in Kyotera, responding to a cleric’s question about whether he was willing to “forgive” the kingdom’s radio station for alleged transgressions.

Central Broadcasting Services (CBS) was in September shut down in the midst of a disagreement between the central government and Buganda over Kabaka Mutebi’s planned visit to Bugerere, Kayunga.
