Vivo energy
Petrol products dealer, Vivo Energy has signed a partnership pact with Kenya Railway that will see it use the Nairobi-Nanyuki railway line to transport its products.

The move grants the refurbished line an economic lifeline that will benefit Central and Northern communities.

The move is expected to reduce congestion and accidents on the Nairobi-Nyeri highway.

Vivo energy plans to move 15 million litres of fuel monthly on the revamped MGR line to their storage facilities in Nanyuki Town.

Food processing giant, Del Monte Kenya Ltd, has been evacuating at least 4,400 tonnes of cargo every week to the Port of Mombasa depending on orders.

The company production director Wayne Cook, said the firm started to use the mode of transport after the metre gauge railway was refurbished.

In a span of 10 hours, the firm is able to move goods from its factory in Thika to Mombasa using the rail.

More reliable
Twelve more companies from the vast Mt Kenya region are also reported to have expressed interest to be served by the rail that has been termed as much faster and more reliable as it is least affected by weather conditions and traffic jams.

Nanyuki town is now primed to be a key town in the plan for a regional logistics hub targeting central kenya, the northern counties and neighboring northern countries of Ethiopia and Somalia.
