Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka protested the provisional and final presidential election results following the Tuesday, August 8, election, claiming the results were computer generated. They based this on claims that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s systems were hacked and an algorithm introduced to generate winners. They used this basis to explain why Uhuru Kenyatta had a constant 10% lead over Raila Odinga in the presidential election race, and even went on to win by the same margin.

NASA also claimed the algorithm was seen in several gubernatorial races in which their candidates lost. This alleged evidence was one of their submissions to the Supreme Court in which they claimed the IEBC carried out a sham election that saw Uhuru and a number of Jubilee leaders win in the election. The Supreme Court ruled in their favour on Friday, September 1, saying the IEBC carried out an election marred with illegalities and irregularities, and therefore, nullified Uhuru Kenyatta’s win in a historic move.

On Sunday, September 3, Norman Magaya, NASA’s deputy chief agent who is also one of their lawyers, took to social media to announce that the opposition will be mounting a number of petition cases against some winners in the 2017 election. Among those who contested their loss were Evans Kidero who later dropped his threats to petition Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s win, and Edwin Sifuna who claimed he was rigged out in the Nairobi Senatorial race in which Johnson Sakaja won. As the petitions begin being filed, in about 56 days, Kenyans will be returning to the ballot box in November 2017 to elect a president after Uhuru's win was nullified.
