Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas has announced the development of Anantara Zanzibar Resort, expected to open in 2020 as part of the Zanzibar Amber Resort mixed-use lifestyle community.

Occupying in excess of 1,000 hectares of prime Indian Ocean coastline in the north east of Zanzibar, Zanzibar Amber Resort is an integrated project which is currently under development blending contemporary lifestyle aspirations with premium hospitality and world-class facilities.

The master planning and infrastructure works for Anantara Zanzibar Resort have already commenced. The luxury waterfront resort is to feature 100 guest rooms, alongside 50 one- and two-bedroom pool villas. Leisure facilities will include a luxury spa and wellness centre, a gym, a kid’s club and a teen’s club, in addition to three restaurants and bars. There are also plans to introduce marine life and coral to restore and re-create a reef ecosystem.

Anantara Zanzibar Resort guests will have access to Zanzibar Amber Resort, a mixed-use project which will offer a retail souk, a tropical aqua park, a marina, an equestrian centre and international polo club, along with further hotels. In addition, Zanzibar Amber Resort will also feature East Africa’s first signature golf course, which is confirmed to be designed by Ernie Els. The owning company, Pennyroyal (Gibraltar) Limited, is working in close collaboration with local stakeholders, including the government and the Ministry of Environment, to master plan a self-sufficient and sustainably designed community with energy plants, agriculture, aquaculture and potentially an airfield in the later stages of the project.

South Africa's Cape Town International Airport ranked best in Africa, Kigali International Airport second

South Africa’s Cape Town International Airport has been ranked best in Africa by a reputable Canadian travel and hospitality firm.

The Guide to Sleeping in Airports on its website The Guide to Sleeping in Airports had run a survey on best airports around the world.

The survey released on February 8 2017, had in October 2016 asked travellers to rate airports worldwide on their overall experience on factors like comfort, services; security, customer service and cleanliness.

A statement on their website revealed that Cape Town International Airport is a long-standing fan favourite. Travellers are consistently happy with the terminals’ cleanliness and simplicity – and they’re pleased with the helpful and friendly staff. Amenities like 4 hours of free Wi-Fi, a few pay-to-use lounges, a small budget-friendly grocery store and a library are other welcome additions, not often seen in terminals across the continent.

Kigali International Airport, Rwanda (KGL) came the second on the list as best airport in Africa and number one in East Africa.

Passengers are pleased by the clean and modern terminals and by how helpful their staff have been. The airport itself is decently easy to navigate, and services like e-clearing can limit the time you spend in lineups.

It seems Kenyan media is not that bad after all, The pic you have is made up by a journalist who was probably alittlebit tipsy! He moved Zanzibar Abeid Amani Karume International Airport to number 7 on the Best airport in Africa 2016, all the way down from number 7 worst airport in africa 2017

The USD$ 330 million (700bn/-) Zanzibar Amber Resort will be one of its kind in sub-Saharan Africa, developers Ritz Carlton Said.

Speaking to reporters here, President for Marriot Middle East and Africa, parent company of Ritz Carlton, Alex Kyriakidis said Marriott International Inc. was in final talks with Pennyroyal Gibraltar Ltd for the Ritz Carlton Zanzibar Hotel which will be developed as the Zanzibar Amber Resort mixed lifestyle community.

The hotel will occupy the prime Indian Ocean coastline in the north east of Zanzibar, he said, adding that the hotel design will combine modern architecture and a touch of Zanzibar style to bring together the unique feeling of Tanzanian hospitality.

Kyriakidis is visiting the isle to familiarise himself with the project and meet with some of the prominent stakeholders in the tourism industry and government of Zanzibar.

“This development will be a catalyst for boosting premium tourism to the island of Zanzibar and Tanzania in general,” he said.

According to Kyriakidis, Zanzibar Amber Resort, a mixed-use project will offer a retail souk, a tropical aqua park, a marina, an equestrian centre and international polo club, along with further hotels.

The expansive facility will also feature East Africa’s first signature golf course, he added. Developers say they were working in close collaboration with local stakeholders, including the government and the Ministry of Environment, to master plan a self-sufficient and sustainably designed community with energy plants, agriculture, aquaculture and potentially an airfield in the later stages of the project.

“Currently, the luxury hotel brand Ritz Carlton has only one hotel in Africa located in Cairo-Egypt, and Zanzibar Amber Resort is proud to have the luxury brand in its portfolio,” Kyriakidis told reporters.

Also speaking here yesterday, Saleh Said, the director of Pennyroyal said: “Having Ritz Carlton on board the Amber portfolio will place Zanzibar on the prime tourist charts, which is part of our focus, to change the perception of Zanzibar from a backpacking tourist destination to high end tropical paradise.”
