3 reasons why Warriors are heavy favorites

The big talking point after last year's NBA Finals was how the Cleveland Cavaliers managed to take two wins without two of their biggest stars.

So with Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving healthy, their rematch with the Golden State Warriors should favor the Cavaliers, right?

Wrong. Cleveland demolished the Eastern Conference, boasts a revamped offense centered around blistering 3-point shooting, and is fully rested. Still, Vegas odds have the Warriors as a 1-2 favorite, while statistical projections give the Warriors a 69 percent chance to win.

Here are three reasons why the Warriors are heavy favorites to take home yet another Larry O'Brien Trophy.

1. Defensive concerns

Defense powered Cleveland's run last year, but the Cavs aren't nearly as stingy this postseason despite facing lesser competition to reach the Finals.

Through three rounds, the Cavaliers' defense has jumped four points per 100 possessions.

SEASON DEFENSIVE RATING RANK
2014-15 98.9 2nd
2015-16 102.9 12th
Their declining defensive performance can be traced back to a change in personnel: Taking Timofey Mozgov out of the rotation has hurt them in terms of rim protection, and the Irving-Love combination is a sieve.

Removing Mozgov opened up Cleveland's offense by stuffing another shooter into the lineup. But without their lone shot blocker, the Cavaliers have allowed opponents to shoot 56.3 percent on field goals defended around the hoop. Compare that to 49 percent allowed by the Warriors.

The same applies to Irving and Love: They've helped Cleveland's offense, but hurt on defense. Any pick-and-roll featuring Love and Irving has produced 1.207 points per possession - the second-highest total in the league, according to ESPN's Zach Lowe.

Their challenge will be to stop the deadliest pick-and-roll combination in the league in Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. Good luck.

The Thunder's attempt to match up with the Warriors had the right idea with a roster full of long, athletic, and quick wing defenders who could switch. But the Cavaliers don't have anything close to Oklahoma City's defensive weaponry.

Love and Channing Frye have dominated lesser teams in the East, but their lack of foot speed will render them defensive liabilities against the Warriors. Here's how Love looked in the Warriors' 34-point spanking back in January.

2. Faster pace favors Warriors

The Cavaliers will struggle on defense, but the same might be true of the Warriors. Cleveland's offensive rating sits at an absurd 116.2 heading into the Finals, and they've made more threes per game on a higher percentage.

Eastern Conference foes have found it impossible to guard the Cavaliers' spread offense. By surrounding James with four shooters, Cleveland has shattered records with their blistering inside-out attack.

A faster pace - not necessarily in possessions, but in terms of execution - has powered Cleveland's attack. And according to Tyronn Lue, the Cavaliers plan to beat the Warriors at their own game by pushing the pace.

"We just have to play our game," Lue said. "We’re not going to slow the ball down and be at ease. We’re going to push the pace, try to get easy baskets early in transition but make sure we’re taking good shots."

Except a high pace will only play into the Warriors' hands. Golden State holds the advantage in terms of athleticism and quick-trigger outside shooting, and they've at their best playing up-tempo. The Cavaliers should slow it down like they did in last year's Finals, as opposed to speeding out of control against the Warriors.

3. No solution for Death Lineup!

The Cavaliers raced out to a 2-1 lead last year, but it was all Warriors after Steve Kerr's ingenious adjustment in Game 4.

Kerr swapped Andrew Bogut for Andre Iguodala in the starting lineup to unleash a small-ball unit with four wings around one big. That allowed the Warriors to take the next three games and the championship.

That unit has only grown deadlier!

Teh teh teh teh Pundits bana... Kabla ya Msimu kuanza hizi ndizo zilikuwa Prediction zao.. Kwamba Warriors wangeishia second round na LAC ndio angeingia Finals kupambana na Cavs... Na mwishoni Cavs kushinda..
