Raimundo putting Curry on the top 5 list of the greatest point guards is a joke. It is even more laughable to have him in front of Isiah Thomas. If one would ask what criteria did the guys who came up with list you to prepare it? Because, stats wise, Curry can't even be there. Besides, that why I said he is more a shooting guard than a point guard. If you look at his assists you can see why I'm saying so. Currently in the league is number 12 in the assist leaders, having a 6.4 APG with a total of 245 assists made 2015-16 Regular Season NBA Player Stats and League Leaders - Assists - National Basketball Association - ESPN way behind the likes of Rondo, CP and Westbrook. If you look at career assists stats, you can also see why I say so: if you look at all time assists leaders, Curry isn't even in the top 25! Then you wonder why the hell he is in the top 5 list of all time point guards? He hasn't even made more than 4,000 assists, he has a 6.9% in assists Stephen Curry - m.bkref.com

Without disrespect, Curry has potentials to be in the list of all time greats. But, he needs to do what he has done in the 1.5 seasons consistently until he retires. Consistence is what defines GREATNESS. Look at Timmy D and see what I mean.

back to CURRY being either an SG or PG...
Curry initially started as a shooting guard (way back....before NBA,and College(not sure here) )...but to people like you,either overlook what skill sets he posses or dont know what a ''hybrid'' PG is.
Curry controls the tempo,the offense runs through him,his highscoring is due to the fact that he is the best shooter and scorer at his position.That doesnt take away from his playmaking ability which is criminally overlooked.His abilities open up the floor for his colleagues.Pound for pound he is not above ''some'' HOFamers,but he definately belongs to the list..

Name top Ball Handlers in the Game right now,
Name top Dribblers in the game right now,
Name top players who leads in driving to the paint(because all you think Curry does is shoot,shoot and shoot)
 
If it is RIGHT NOW, there is doubt Curry is the best. One more thing, you may come up with whatever descriptions of a PG. One thing you can't run away from is: a PG is valued the most with his creation of scoring opportunities for the team i.e. ASSISTS. This is the basis for me to say Curry is a better shooting than point guard.

Of course, that's no brainer: everyone is entitled to his/her opinion. However, opinions can also be challenged with facts and realities.

He was selected ALL Rookie First team in 2010....Were you too young back then?
Injuries prevented him to show his full potential early in his career.....but pundits like Skip Bayless had him as his no.1 draft pick since entering the league...in short,Curry has been exceptionally talented way back...he is enjoying the limelight now simply because he is a champion...

And why do you think,Curry does not ASSIST enough??..He is 12th in the league right now,better than 18+ PGs....Does it imply 18 NBA TEAMS right now have no What we call PG since they average below Curry?..Is Curry a benchmark for all substandard PGs?

Larry Bird is among the best 3 point shooters In NBA History......and no one can dispute that...not because of the number(quantity made),infact he only shot 37% throughout his career....that is less than 400 3PT made....
It is because of the value associated,the era he played and the impact he had.
 
Nzi, take it from me, what Curry is doing to the game of basketball is unprecedented. Only one man, Michael Jordan, revolutionized the game the way Steph Curry is doing. Curry's ball handling, dribbling and shooting skills are second to none and is currently every young and upcoming player's dream. Every small kid out there wants to be the next Curry, his prowess is phenomenon and his finesse catching...yeah, that is Steph Curry.

Curry is small in build and what he lacks in size is compensated by his ability to maneuver and not bulldoze his way around the court. That is why what takes others years to accomplish, he is likely to do in less time and that's what defines prodigies. It is like a kid who gets his first degree before he is twelve, does that take the credit away from him simply because there are Ph.D. holders out there but who took thirty years to get their first degrees?

How many times he has drawn attention from opposing players? What is his percentage in drawing attention from opposing players? Can you even get stats on such a thing? What a minute! So, what happens when he is double/triple teamed? Does he get double/triple teamed while handling ball? Or while he has no ball? So, let me assume you meant while he handles the ball: so, if that happens it means his four teammates are against three/two opposing players, right? So, what does Curry do next, assuming he is on the opposition side’s wing, free throw line, baseline, 3-point line or on the paint: he would pass the ball to one of his teammates to score or one of his teammates to pass to another teammate to score. Though, option is more apparent. It means, Curry should be leading in the assists board; because he is mostly put in positions of passing to his teammates who aren’t fully guarded.

That is, I don’t know if I really understood you from the practical point of view.

Why do I think he does not assist enough? It is not a matter of thinking, it is factual bro. If he is being double/triple teamed as you have said, he should then be up there in the assists leading board. Actually, what you have said, raises a lot of questions about Curry’s reading of the game. If what you have said is TRUE, then he can’t read the game. Even a D-league PG would take advantage of being double/triple teamed by making ridiculous assists to his teammates, who are literally unguarded.

By the way, the best point guard and player in the league is supposed to be up there, isn't he? Besides, did you look the links that I attached? Did you find any great PG in the league below top 10? All the best PGs in the game right now are up there. And if you look again the list, you can see that with exception of D. Green and J. Harden, all the rest in the top 10 are actually PGs. Giving assists, that what a PG is all about.

How long has he been injured? How many games did he miss in what season(s) due to injuries? Don't just generalise in such a way! Brings facts.

There is no doubt that Curry is talented. But, the only things that makes him not the great player (at least for now) are: (1) lack of consistency (I know you may use the excuse that he was injured. But, some of his fanatics have said in this thread that he has been leading in 3-points shooting in the league). So, I wonder why his 3-points haven't been helping his team to win championships before last year! If he was leading in the 3-points, it means he was playing; so what happened in the seasons that he was playing? Or you intend to provide an excuse that he was out entire seasons due to injuries? (2) lack of abilities to carry the team on his own. Failing to help Warriors before last year is the evidence for this. I don’t know what was going on at GSW before S. Kerr took off. They were too irrelevant to follow. But, it is apparent that Curry wasn’t carrying his team like how he has done in the last 1.5 seasons. You wrote about him attracting opposing players’ attention and that improving his teammates’ performances. Great, but, why he wasn’t doing like that in the first 5.5 seasons of his NBA career? So, may be Kerr is the reason uh, may be.

It isn’t me bro! That is the standard definition, according to the NBA.

Oh! That came up unexpectedly! So, let me assume “it’s not just about the number”, (which is seemingly absurd in any sport, where numbers win games and championships), what was Curry’s impact to the team before the last 1.5 seasons? By the way, how do you measure a player’s impact on the team that is competing in a league?

By value, you mean his value on the team or his monetary value? If you mean his value on the team, again as I have said above, it is very subjective. It also depends on how you define a player’s value: is it about helping his team win championships or at least try to win them? Or is it about individual stats etc.? If you mean Curry’s monetary value, I think he is one of (if not THE poorest) the poorest NBA stars contract-wise. With a $44 million 4-years contract, that makes him the lowly paid NBA superstar! All the NBA superstars are valued at $20+ million per year!


So, now are you trying to compare Curry’s impact on the team to Larry’s? This is the problem with you Curry’s fanatics you are sucking up too much on him!! The dude is talented, no doubt. But, it is TOO EARLY to put him up there with greatest players ever. He has to do what he is doing now, consistently until he retires.

I wonder if Barcelona were only playing tiki taka without the style winning them championships, could have been ranked as the best football club! And this includes Messi too; he does ‘chenga twawala’ things and wins championships etc. That is showing his impact and value to the team. So, if ‘chenga twawala’ makes a player the greatest, then you have a point.
