Health Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Mercy Mwangangi, on Tuesday, April 14, announced that 8 individuals had tested positive for Covid-19, bring the total number of confirmed cases within the country to 216, adding that 1 more patient had fully recovered from the virus and has since been discharged.
The new cases came after the ministry tested 694 samples in the last 24 hours, elaborating that 5 of the 8 new positives cases were Kenyans.
Speaking outside Afya House during the daily presser, the CAS revealed that they were going to roll out a mass testing exercise in identified cluster areas based on the risk of transmissions such as Kibra, Hotels, Quarantine areas and Hospitals in Nairobi, KPA, Mandera, and Siaya.
The first phase of mass testing is targeting at least 12,000 individuals, she further revealed, adding that the move was necessitated by the spread of the virus across counties.
"The virus is now domiciled across the length and breadth of the country," she announced.
She then mapped out the various coronavirus cases confirmed in the country as follows: Nairobi (151), Mombasa (32), Kilifi (9), Nakuru (2), Kitui (2), Kajiado (2), Kwale (1), Kakamega (1), Mandera (6), Uasin Gishu (1), and Siaya (1).
CAS Mwangangi then turned her attention to the alarming rise in domestic violence cases over the last month, confessing to having witnessed such an incident involving one of her own neighbours, a lady, who was allegedly assaulted by her spouse recently.
She pleaded with Kenyans to come together, emphasising the need to act as one, as well as taking up the role of a 'brother's keeper'.
