Tuskys Supermarket has moved to occupy space vacated by Nakumatt Supermarkets in Kericho and Eldoret.
The fast-expanding retailer has announced plans to unveil outlets at Green Square Mall and Eldo Centre on Saturday.
“THUMBS UP to creating new jobs & promoting Kenyan products as we open NEW OUTLETS in Kericho & Eldoret this weekend…” the retail chain announced in a series of tweets on Tuesday.
The two buildings were until last year leased by Nakumatt, which was forced to moved out as rent arrears piled amid pressure from 19 land lords in Nairobi and other major towns, who were demanding over Ksh 600 million.
Nakumatt was on Monday placed in administration by the High Court a move that rescued it from potential liquidation. A management deal that would have seen Tusker Mattresses, which owns Tuskys, inject liquidity into Nakumatt fell through after the Competition Authority of Kenya flagged out some legal issues.
Tuskys, on the other hand, had been expanding spree and late last year opened two new premium branches in Kisumu and Kisii after refurbishing them to the tune of Ksh 240 million.

The latest move will push up the retailer’s branch network to 66 stores with 59 branches in Kenya and seven in Uganda. The retailer also owns Mavazi, a clothing and accessories departmental store with plans to open similar outlets this year.
“At Tusker Mattresses, we remain committed to deepening the formal retail market in East Africa and will continue to invest heavily on customer experience and variety of products on our shelves to meet the dynamic market needs,” CEO Dan Githua said at the time.
