The Nigerian government, through the National Broadcasting Corporation has banned some of Africa’s top songs, including two of Davido’s songs.

The cooperation released the list of five songs that were tagged ‘Not to be broadcasted’ that subsequently barred the songs from being aired on the local television and radio stations.

The songs include Davido’s ‘Fall’, ‘If Remix’, Olamide’s ‘Wo’, ‘Wavy Lines’ and 9ice’s ‘Living Things’.

The Federal Ministry of Health in a tweet said that Olamide’s song ‘Wo’ ‘s video depicted scenes in which young people smoked. This was in a way propagating a culture of second-hand smoking.

Wo by Olamide, according to the authorities, conflicted with the Tobbaco Control Act 2015 that forbade form of promotion of tobacco whether accidental or deliberate, except between a manufacturer, retailer and a consenting person who is above 18 years old.

Neither the Federal Ministry of Health nor the National Broadcasting Corporation has released an official reason for the banning of the other songs besides Wo.

Musician Falz had earlier criticised Nigerian musicians for glorifying fraud in their lyrics and videos, with reference to the ‘Living Things’ by 9ice.
