Asanteni!
Naomba nitoe commet kuhusu cookies, as an Internet tracking mechanism:
If you dont want to be profiled while you are on-line, it is best to find away disable cookies. And YES, you should be worried about them. To start, here is a link to a wiki explaining in a nutshell what cookies are:
[ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_cookie[/ame]
Cookies play an important role in allowing companies like Google and Microsoft to sell your browsing habits to on-line advertiser. By knowing your browsing habits, a company can send you targeted advertisements, which are more effective that just send shit you are not interested. Google also use this type of information to optimize their search engine.
While this may seem harmful, there is however a negative side to it. For example, your browsing habits makes it easier for someone to identify you online/on the Internet, hence you loose your privacy. Something like:
"Bwana Mseku anausudu ngono za kijapani, Kila mwezi ananunua vipodo na kuvituma address ya SA, anachukia sana wadosi, anatafuta kununua bastola, na anatafuta tiketi ya kwenda Yemen..."
Read this story on NY Times about a woman who got revealed based on her Internet search habits:

What you have raised is indeed critical and something to be concerned. But, I wouldnt be so paranoid about it.
Here is what I always as a precaution:
1. At an internet café, I always clear all cookies and history, so that the next person using the PC does not have any reference to my browsing habits or my login passwords (just incase I did allow the browser to save my passwd).
2. When surfing the net at home, I disable cookies, unless a website demands I should have it enabled (and clear them after I finished surfing).
