President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to meet his US counterpart Donald Trump on Monday to discuss crucial issues facing the two nations.
In an interview at Washington, DC, Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma revealed that she has been on a tight schedule, holding numerous high-profile meetings with US and African diplomats in preparation for the meeting.
"We knew that this would happen, so we started our preparations many weeks ago. Up to now, I have held about 10 inter-ministerial meetings in preparations to present our policy paper," Dr Juma said on Saturday.
The agenda will be on South Sudan's peace process, direct flights from Kenya to the United States and the Kenya-US economic ties.
CIVIL WAR
Kenya has actively participated in South Sudan peace talks that enabled President Salva Kiir and rebel leader Riek Machar to sign a peace pact to end the civil war that started in 2013.

The meeting will also provide room for review of the Africa Growth Opportunity Act (Agoa).
Agoa, which enhances market access to the US for "qualifying Sub-Saharan African countries", will be in effect until 2025.
"We are proposing the formation of joint teams to review the partnership after 2025. This is to ensure that African countries continue to benefit from this important cooperation," she said.
Dr Juma met US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, 37 African ambassadors and several think tanks.
Uhuru, Trump to discuss trade relations
@Admin please pin this thread.

The meeting at the White House will be the first by President Kenyatta on a bilateral level.
It is only the second formal meeting for an African leader at the White House, and points to Kenya's increasingly significant role in security in the region, one of President Trump's obvious focus areas.
It will also be the start of high-level meetings with global leaders in 10 days.
British Prime Minister Theresa May is due in Nairobi on Thursday before the President meets Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Beijing during the China-Africa summit.
Increasing investment, bolstering trade and securing peace in the region are the overall issues on President Kenyatta’s plate over the next 10 day

What Uhuru will seek from Trump

This meeting could be good or bad for Kenya depending on whether Trump/Uhuru click. Trump is one of those ppl that if you meet and he likes you then he wont care much about you human rights record or your record in general... He will just make things happen... But if he doesnt like you then you can forget about making any deals, infact huo mkutano unaisha baada ya dakika kumi ...

So my advice to Uhuru. ..

Kenyan First Lady Margaret Kenyatta will participate along with her US counterpart, Melania Trump, in an initial round of talks today between the countries’ presidents, the White House said on Monday.
President Donald Trump’s schedule lists a 20-minute bilateral meeting starting at 1:55pm Washington time that will involve the two as well as the US and Kenyan leaders.
Mr and Mrs Trump are earlier scheduled to welcome Mr and Mrs Kenyatta to the White House in a 10-minute ceremony commencing at 1:45 pm, according to the White House.
Mr Trump and Mr Kenyatta will have “an expanded bilateral meeting” set to last 45 minutes— from 2:15 pm to 3 pm, the White House announced.
