Amber Girling, 20, from Chatham, Kent, weighed 9st at age 17 (she is pictured, left), but began thinking about her weight when girls at school called her 'curvy' and made fun of what she was eating. She began dieting and exercising, but when she saw no results, she started taking diet pills. Soon, she was taking four different types, swallowing 90 tablets a week.

She started vomiting daily, suffered stomach pains, and her skin turned yellow. Her weight plummeted to 4st (pictured right), and when she refused to eat a home-cooked meal, her sister drove her to hospital. She spent five months in a unit to treat her anorexia (pictured inset).

Following the recent death of Ella Parry, 21, who died of an overdose of diet pills, Miss Girling decided to speak out about the dangers of taking slimming aids. She said: 'They might seem like a quick fix, but they're not the answer.'
