PRIME Minister Mizengo Pinda has called on the China-based Hongda Group to make sure construction of iron ore and core plants in Mchuchuma and Liganga in Mbeya Region are completed on time as their completion is expected to boost the local economy.
The Premier, who is on official tour in the Asian superpower said at the weekend that apart from ensuring power independency, the projects were also geared to contributing largely to the nations Gross Domestic Products (GDP) as well as creating thousands of employment opportunities.
Do whatever is in your capacity so that the projects can start within the agreed time and schedule as the country anticipates seeing big results from its implementation, he said.
According to Hongda Group which has won the tender to construct the plants, the two major projects expected to be completed by 2017 and 2018 are jointly implemented by his company in collaboration with the National Development Corporation (NDC).
The Companys Senior Officer Mr Liu Canglong told Prime Minister Pinda that the project was now in different phases of implementation including undertaking the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) which has been concluded.
The conclusion of EIA will be followed by the purchases of machines ready for the job, he said. Mr Canglong briefed the Premier that his company was receiving maximum cooperation from Tanzania and China ahead of the project take off and that it had already formed the board and its management team to oversee the project implementation and other day to day tasks.
NDCs Managing Director Mr Gideon Nassari said that the two projects were expecting to produce more than 600 MW to be injected into the national grid, and the digging of iron core will surely make Tanzania one of the three African countries leading in the manufacturing of the product.
Mr Pinda also made a visit to the Sichuan Province where he visited the pipe raw materials manufacturing plant also owned by Hongda Group. He cherished the brotherly relationship between Tanzania and China recalling the death of some Chinese experts who perished as they constructed the Tanzania and Zambia Railway.
Earlier, the Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania Mr Lu Youqing said out of 69 Chinese who died during the railway construction, 36 were from Sichuan Province.
