- A Non-governmental organization has given Kisumu police officers hundreds of body bags ahead of elections
- The body bags will be used to transport dead bodies in case of violence during and after the polls
- The consignment has sent chills down the spines of Kisumu residents, with some already fleeing the area

A Kenyan non-governmental organization has dispatched the first batch of first aid kits and disaster management equipment to police in Kisumu ahead of the Tuesday, August 8 General Election. TUKO.co.ke has learnt that the equipment include hundreds of body bags. Kisumu police officers also received stretchers, gloves and other emergency material. According to the NGO, having the equipment in place is part of preparedness to deal with serious casualties in case of violence during and after the General Election. The equipment were received on Friday, August 5 2015 by the Administration Police Commander Joseph Keitany. While the move has been lauded by a cross section of Kenyans ,quite a multitude believe it was a wrong move since it has already sent chills down the spine of many Kisumu residents, with some already fleeing to ‘safer’ areas.

However, Nyanza Regional Coordinator Wilson Njenga has urged Kisumu residents to relax as the body bags were only meant to boost preparedness for big events such as elections. "We will use these kits including the body bags in cases of emergency or accidents or casualties arising from the election," Njega told members of the fourth estate. "The Kenya Red Cross team are ready with first aid and medical kits, so the police is not an exception. This is a routine exercise," Njenga added.

The security boss however sent a word of warning to voters, stating the police would not tolerate anybody to hang around polling stations apart from elections observers and accredited voters. ‘’Police have been given direct orders to deal with those defying the directive.’’ closed Njenga. President Uhuru has urged all Kenyans to exit polling stations after casting their votes and follow the proceedings from home.
