A 28-year-old policewoman based at Homa Bay Police Station on Sunday morning killed her two children and committed suicide by setting her house on fire.
Judith Karandi reportedly locked herself and her children, aged 3 and 6, in the house before setting the house on fire.
Judith, whose husband works for the Homa Bay County Government as a driver, had reportedly worked at the station for only three months after being transferred from Kisumu before the incident.
According to neighbours, the couple had been experiencing marital problems and she had fled to her sister’s house prior to the incident but her sister had advised her to return to her marital home.
Confirming the incident, Homa Bay County AP Commander Michael Mutonyi said Judith was on leave and was to resume duty tomorrow (Monday).
The bodies of the three have been moved to Homa Bay Mortuary.
