The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr John Pombe Magufuli has appointed Dr Tulia Ackson Mwansasu as Member of Parliament. Dr Tulia was in the race for Speaker of the National Assembly, and was among the three nominated by her party, CCM to contest for the position.
Speaking with JamiiForums earlier today, the spokesman of the Government of Tanzania, Assah Mwambene confirmed the news, stating that the president indeed made the appointment today.
Dr. Thomas Kashilila, secretary of the Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania also said he received information regarding the appointment early this morning.
Prior to that appointment, Dr Tulia was Deputy Attorney General, and on November 15, 2015 she was nominated by the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) to contest for the position of speaker of Parliament.
