Emery: "You can't say goodbye to the Sevilla fans like this"

Sevilla
did not play particularly well in the first half against Almería on Sunday. Having travelled back from Florence, via Bologna, and arrived in the Andalusian capital at 6am on Friday the team were unable to train that day and only had one session on Saturday, leading coach Unai Emery to leave several first-choice players out of the squad. That, combined with the unseasonal heat in Andalusia, led to a below-par 45 minutes from the home side with Almería clearly in control.

However, after the break Sevilla got back into the game and looked again like the side that this season has achieved the club's highest-ever points total in Primera División. As Denis Suárez has since revealed, a lot had to do with Emery's half time team talk. "You can't say goodbye to the Sevilla fans like this," the coach told the side on the occasion of their final home match of the season. Citing the love the fans have shown the team this season Emery spurred his charges on to a win.

After the game, Emery made a remark to touch the heart of every Sevilla fan: "Every day when I wake up I give thanks to Sevilla for being where I am today."

"Moyes came to change things & it hasn’t worked out as planned"

Iñigo Martínez spoke to the assembled media as Real Sociedad prepare for the last league game of the season away to Rayo Vallecano on Saturday. Still disappointed following on from Sunday’s 0-3 home reverse against Granada, the player expressed his disquiet with the season.

-Reflection on the season. "It’s true that it’s been a mixed season, with certainly more negative moments despite the odd occasion where things seemed to be going our way. We came into Sunday’s game in decent form and with a positive dynamic and we hoped to beat Granada. The game was terrible for us, both first and second halves and it’s normal that the crowd get frustrated".

-Bad season. "The early part of the season was difficult. Then we had a change of coach, Moyes came in with the intention of improving and changing things and it hasn’t worked out so well. Now we need to look forward, new players will come in during the summer and we need to see with these new additions if we can improve and aim to finish higher in the league".

-The annoyance of the supporters. "The fans get behind us when things go well and when things are not so good they request that you improve. We played badly on Sunday and we need to ne mature enough to accept the criticism and annoyance of our fans".

The Basque told a news conference that he was not worried about the speculation and reminded reporters he still had two years on his current contract.

"These type of rumours come and go," Martinez said. "I am relaxed as I have two more years on my contract. So I am not worried about these type of things."

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will not decide over the sanction that FIFA has handed out toUD Almeríauntil next week.

FIFA's punishment included taking three points away from the Spanish club for having paid €4,500 in interests too late in the solidarity payments regarding Michael Jakobsen's transfer.

A representative from the club travelled to CAS headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, to present their case. Also present were FIFA, who in turn gave their reasons for issuing the three-point reduction.

Juan de Dios Crespo presented the case for UD Almería, while the Portuguese Bernardo Palmeiro spoke for FIFA. The judges presiding were Mariano Blanco and Lorena García.

In the hearing, which lasted over eight and a half hours, Almería asked CAS to accept their request to be heard and to continue with the case. The club also informed of the ruling reached by the Spanish Disciplinary Committee for Sports. Finally, they asked for cautionary measures and for the 3-point sanction to be suspended.

After the hearing, CAS informed the club that it would reach a decision next week, after Tuesday.
"The best news would be that we beat Valencia, which is what we really need", Almería president Alfonso García told MARCA soon after hearing how the meeting in Lausanne had gone.
