Doha, November 9, 2024—The State of Qatar has officially refuted reports claiming it has expelled Hamas representatives or withdrawn from mediating efforts. Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al-Ansari, the official spokesperson for Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that any reports suggesting Qatar’s cessation of mediation between Hamas and Israel are inaccurate.
Dr. Al-Ansari clarified that Qatar’s mediation efforts were temporarily halted due to the inability of Hamas and Israel to reach an agreement during recent negotiations. He emphasized Qatar’s commitment to resuming these efforts when circumstances allow, with a focus on alleviating the suffering of civilians facing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Qatar remains dedicated to being at the forefront of efforts to secure the release and safe return of hostages.
In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Dr. Al-Ansari outlined Qatar's stance on mediation, which is rooted in a framework aimed at achieving a ceasefire and enabling the exchange of women and children. He described recent statements about the mediation process as attempts to obscure the issue with “hidden political agendas.”
Dr. Al-Ansari reaffirmed Qatar's unwavering support for Palestinian rights, specifically their right to an independent state within the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. He also addressed rumors concerning the status of Hamas' office in Doha, confirming that its purpose is to facilitate communication between parties—a role that has previously enabled successful ceasefire agreements and hostage exchanges, including a significant exchange last November involving women and children.
He concluded by urging the public to rely on official sources for information regarding Qatar’s efforts and stance on these issues.
