Military aided ‘theft’ of CORD victory at Bomas, Raila Odinga claims

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga now claims that Jubilee leaders used the military in the 2013 General Election to forcefully ascend to power.

Addressing a CORD rally at the Kenyatta Sports Ground in Kisumu town yesterday, Raila alleged that President Uhuru and his deputy William Ruto used military personnel to eject CORD supporters from the Bomas of Kenya, which was the national tallying centre for the presidential election, to enable Jubilee clinch victory.

He claimed Uhuru and Ruto feared the cases on crimes against humanity facing them at the International Criminal Court (ICC) and used all means at their disposal to capture the leadership of the country. “Nobody should claim that our people did not turn up to vote because that is wrong,” Raila said.

Mutunga coerced

The CORD principal, who spoke in Dholuo almost throughout his address, further claimed Chief Justice Willy Mutunga was forced by the Jubilee leaders to deliver a verdict that he did not believe in during last year’s disputed presidential election.

The opposition principals launched a scathing attack on the Jubilee Government and claimed it had lost direction. “Those saying the next election will be conducted in 2017 are wrong because I believe it can be done anytime before then,” said former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka.

The former VP and Wiper party leader maintained the country’s electoral body must be restructured before the next elections because the public has lost faith in the institution. “We have agreed as CORD principals to remain united in order to clinch the presidency in the next elections,” said the ungoma Senator Moses Wetangula.

A section of CORD leaders told Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni to stop meddling in Eastern African Community affairs.

Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar Hassan fired the first salvo by telling Museveni to withdraw troops from South Sudan. He said the Ugandan President had been interfering with affairs of the region for a long time.
“He should withdraw troops because he is a menace in this region,” said Omar.

Ugandan troops have been fighting alongside South Sudan government forces against rebels in the civil war going on in South Sudan. Museveni boasted of having defeated rebels in a “big battle” north of the capital Juba despite some of his soldiers being killed.

Speaking at a CORD rally in Kisumu, Siaya Senator James Orengo said Museveni had no moral authority to intervene in any conflict in Africa owing to his reputation. “Museveni is an aggressor who cannot give solutions to any East African problem,” said Mr Orengo.

He told the Ugandan President to first accept that Migingo Island belongs to Kenya before trying to appear as if he is intervening in a conflict affecting any nation.

“He cannot reconcile a nation yet he has refused to let go of Migingo,” said Orengo.

The war has seen several thousand people killed over the past month. Ugandan officials have previously said that their special forces were only in South Sudan to help evacuate their nationals.

Museveni and ICC

The calls for Museveni to withdraw troops come in the wake of the Ugandan president telling International Criminal Court (ICC) to keep off Africa affairs.

Kisumu Senator Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o echoed the sentiments saying Museveni was a bother to the region.
Meanwhile, Kisumu town was a theatre of jubilation, pomp and dance as CORD leaders held their first ever joint meeting at the Jomo Kenyatta Sports Ground.?In a show of solidarity, the principals arrived at the venue shortly after 3pm amid a rousing welcome by the residents.?As early as 10am, the locals had started arriving at the venue while others lined up the roads to welcome their leaders.

And shortly after 2pm, a huge crowd made their way to the venue carrying placards bearing portraits of the leaders while singing and chanting Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) slogans and praising their party leader Raila.

Speaker after speaker praised CORD luminaries for staying intact and urged them to remain united ahead of next year’s general elections.

Homa Bay Senator Otieno Kajwang’ charged the crowd with his popular song: Vijana msilale bado mapambano (youths don’t sleep, it is still a struggle), singing and dancing as he waved a whisk.
He was joined by the entire brigade and the locals who also danced to the tune.

When it was turn for Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma to speak, the crowd booed and heckled, forcing him to cut short his speech.

Ruto tells off Raila over remarks on rigging

DEPUTY President William Ruto has told off Cord leader Raila Odinga over his claim that the military helped the Jubilee Alliance to rig last year's general election.

Ruto said all Kenyans are aware of what happened during the polls. He said the opposition leaders spreading lies about the elections are wasting their time.

"Kenya has a shortage of fools to cheat. People in this country are clever and you cannot cheat them," Ruto said. The DP was speaking when he attended a church service at the St Barnabas Catholic Church Kimumu in Eldoret town yesterday.

Ruto asked leaders to always tell Kenyans the truth and stop dividing the country over petty issues. He said opposition leaders should criticise the government based on truth and not lies or propaganda. "If they continue telling lies they will not succed. They will be ashamed and defeated," Ruto said.

Raila, while addressing a Cord rally in Kisumu on Saturday, said the militarty helped President Uhuru Kenyatta and Ruto ascend to power by rigging the elections.

Yesterday Ruto said the allegations are mere noise, which will not deter the Jubilee government from delivering on its mandate to lead Kenyans and implement development programmes.

"We are prepared and very ready to transform this country by implementing what we promised. We have already started projects to increase food production through irrigation among other plans," he said.

For our brothers and sisters north of our border, we pray that you resolve your differences peacefully. Violence and chaos will bring nothing but devastation and sufferings.
Please do not let your beautiful country fall into anarchy. Do not let Kenya become a labyrinth of sufferings.
Peace be upon all Kenyans. God bless Africa.

Secretary to the Cabinet Francis Kimemia demands apology from former PM Raila Odinga over rigging claim remarks

By ALPHONCE SHIUNDU

Kenya: Secretary to the Cabinet Francis Kimemia has lashed out at CORD leader Raila Odinga over his remarks that the military rigged in President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto in the March 4, 2013 polls.

Kimemia, a powerful figure in the former government of President Kibaki, and still a powerbroker in the current government, more so within the Civil Service, told Raila to stop "inciting Kenyans through his creative, inflammatory and false allegations."

In a brief to newsrooms, Kimemia said the military was "never used in any polling station" all over the country. He said the only time the military was used was when it was sent to secure the country's borders against the Somali militant group –Al Shabaab.

"We therefore ask the Mr Odinga to commence respect for institutions. This is the time to strengthen professionalism and not demonise institutions, especially now that we have a new Constitution in place. Good leadership strives to consolidate dynamic ethical institutions now and for posterity," said Kimemia.

Kimemia signed the brief to newsrooms on behalf of the National Security Advisory Committee meaning that it came with the full blessings and authority of all the security bosses in the country. Kimemia is the chairman of the National Security Advisory Committee.

The committee wants an immediate apology from the CORD leader.

The Secretary to the Cabinet, whose duty was to midwife the transition from the then Kibaki administration to the new administration of President Kenyatta insisted that the polls were free and credible, because, the results announced at the polling station in the constituencies, was the same with what was read out at the Bomas of Kenya.

He said results were announced in the presence of party agents.
He added: "We also urge Mr Odinga to desist from inciting Kenyans over his democratic loss and disillusionment. The March 4 General Election was one of the most peaceful and competitive election ever carried out in the history of Kenya and we should celebrate this moment instead of issuing inflammatory comments that may destabilize the peace that we enjoy now."

The NSAC's rebuttal came just a day after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission told Raila to withdraw the claim and apologise to the commission and to the military.

Raila had insisted that his party's agents were kicked out of the tallying centre at the Bomas of Kenya during the tallying process.

IEBC refutes claims that military aided ‘theft' of CORD victory

By Standard Digital reporter

Nairobi, Kenya: The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission ( IEBC) Monday refuted claims by CORD leader Raila Odinga that the military were involved in theft of votes during March 4 General Election.

The commission, at the same time challenged Raila to substantiate his claim or withdraw and apologise.

While addressing a CORD rally at the Kenyatta Sports Ground in Kisumu town at the weekend, Raila alleged that President Uhuru and his deputy William Ruto used military personnel to eject CORD supporters from the Bomas of Kenya, which was the national tallying centre for the presidential election, to enable Jubilee clinch victory.

IEBC termed the allegations false and untimely, saying "they should have been raised during the court petition, if at all they had any basis."

"It is malicious, disparaging and utter lies that the military were in Bomas for whatever purpose and neither did IEBC aid any electoral malpractice," said IEBC in a statement.

The Commission said it only engaged Kenya Police and their GSU counterparts to provide security for everyone at the Bomas of Kenya.

Responding to the claim of ejecting eject CORD supporters, the electoral Commission said: "There was no incident of ejecting people from the tallying centre. All agents were relocated to avoid obstructing the election officials from undertaking their duties."

While condemning the utterance, IEBC emphasised issuing falsehood must be deterred by all means within the law.

"It is hard for anyone to believe that the many election observers and agents who had their eyes on every stage of the polling exercise failed to notice and to report such a serious crime if indeed it was committed."
