Kiongozi wa Muungano wa Upinzani NASA nchini Kenya, Raila Odinga amesema kuwa upinzani sasa umegeuza muungano wa upinzani National Super Alliance NASA kuwa kundi la maasi.

Amesema kuwa wataanza kususia mambo muhimu kwenye Serikali, watasusia bidhaa na huduma kutoka kwa kampuni zinazounga mkono utawala na wataendelea kushinikiza uchaguzi mpya ufanyike katika siku 90.

Kenya opposition leader Raila Odinga has called on the National Super Alliance (Nasa) supporters not to participate in any way in Thursday's repeat presidential election.

Addressing the supporters during the "big announcement" at Nairobi's Uhuru Park, Mr Odinga said on Wednesday that Nasa has now transformed from a political coalition to "a resistance movement".

"We will not respect a government that was not elected according to the Constitution," he said.

Kenya's presidential election has plunged the country into political turmoil.

The result of the August 8 vote, won by President Uhuru Kenyatta, was annulled by the Supreme Court on September 1 after a legal challenge from Mr Odinga, who then withdrew from the re-run the judges ordered claiming lack of reforms at the election commission meant the vote would not be free and fair.

After a flurry of last-minute legal challenges failed to halt the election, Mr Odinga told his supporters not to take part.

Kenya opposition vows to block vote

The opposition leader called on them to "hold prayers away from polling stations or just stay at home" on Thursday as Kenya holds what he termed as a “sham repeat presidential election”.

"When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty," he said, using a quote attributed to one of US founding fathers and third president Thomas Jefferson.

"When there is no justice for the people, there will be no peace for the government," he went on, a quote by Emiliano Zapata, a Mexican revolutionary of the 1900s.

He urged the supported to "rise to the occasion and save democracy not only for ourselves but for all of Africa".

"From tomorrow, the duty of every citizen who loves the Constitution must resist dictatorship."

He then proceeded to read the Nasa Declaration as follows:

One: From today, we are transforming Nasa coalition into a resistance movement.

Two: We embark on campaign to defend our democracy.

Three: Boycott goods and services offered by businesses benefiting from the oppressive regime.

Four: Convene people assembly to chat way forward.

Five: Mobilise movements to ensure that a free fair and credible election is organised within 90 days.
