- The just concluded elections seems to have brought a bad omen to Prime Minister Raila Odingas foot soldiers in Central Kenya after they suffered a humiliating defeat that may force some of them to quit politics completely.
The group includes wealthy powerful men such as former Attorney General Charles Mugane Njonjo business mogul Stanley Munga Githunguri, media mogul Samuel Kamau Macharia, and industrialist Peter Kuguru who had channeled billions of shillings to Raila Odingas campaigns to oppose the Presidential bid of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The four members who were officials of Railas Summit did not even manage to garner even a single parliamentary seat in Central province despite exuding confidence they would capture at least a foothold.
While Mr Njonjo tried to rally the province behind Mr Odinga, Mr Githunguri, who is the immediate former Kiambaa MP, was campaigning for Kiambu Senate seat on a KANU ticket where he suffered a resounding defeat from a political green horn Kimani Wamatangi of TNA.
SK Macharia, who is the owner of Citizen TV, had pledged to use all resources at his disposal to campaign for Raila Odinga. SK had even gone to an extent of refusing to air adverts of President Uhuru during the Presidential campaigns. On March 9[SUP]th[/SUP], Macharia fainted after learning that Raila Odinga had lost to President elect Uhuru Kenyatta. Reports said Macharia had pumped Sh 800 million to Railas campaigns.
Peter Kuguru, who is famous for introducing killing brews in Central Kenya, also suffered a humiliating defeat after he lost the Mathira Parliamentary Seat to a political newcomer.
