I had been waiting for so long since morning, I was very eager to meet him for the first time since I knew him on the social networks a couple of months ago. He then appeared with a bright smile, he was tall and he appeared gentle. He has an athletic body and he seems to be so smart. His name is Mansoury Bakari. We greeted each other and we started our conversation after greetings actually it was like I was interviewing him because he was just answering my questions.
So we were discussing on how can our nation develop and be among of the four developed nations in Africa. He was so gentle and polite because he shared his ideas very humbly. When I asked him of what it takes for a nation to develop and become great, he answered, “Majority of citizens must be full of wisdom for a nation to develop.” So I asked him of what he meant when he mentioned WISDOM. “Wisdom is the understanding and application of knowledge in real life.” I asked eagerly, “So why don’t we develop fast as we are having alot of graduates every year?” he then replied with a smile, “The education acquired in universities only fills our heads with knowledge.” In another words he was telling me that Wisdom is much greater than the education we get in schools.
I took few seconds trying to remember what I heard before concerning wisdom and grey hair but it seemed that I will take a longer time to remember so I just asked, “It is said elders are wise, what is the secret behind?” he answered it simply letting me know that wisdom and experience are two faces of the same coin, when you have a head, you’ve also got a tail and you can’t have a coin with only a head.
I asked him, how can young generation acquire wisdom whilst they are less experienced due to young age? He responded “Good question! young generation can get wisdom through reading knowledge written in books” he also argued that in non academic books, there are many authors who share their life experiences which will infact help youths to live thousands lives in less than thirty years. He even insisted that everyone should be reading books as through books people learn less from their own mistakes but rather from other people's mistakes which is of advantage to them.
So I asked him of what Tanzania he wishes to see in the coming twenty years, without hesitation he answered, “I wish now that every young man like me should be reading different books about finances, relationships, psychology, politics, religions and history so that twenty five years to come we can have a generation of citizens who are deep in different wisdoms so that with their financial wisdom they can hold up our economy and who can preserve our culture and good morals after having known all about our history and the world politics.”
I saw the concern in his face as he spoke of his wishes, he was so emotional as if his idea was the best so I thought I should ask the relevance of his ideas in the practical world. “Developed nations have far well developed techonology which is a scientific wisdom from practical experiments or experience, isn’t it enough?” he answered then after looking my eyes he saw my dissatisfaction so he asked me to find the work of Athena in ancient Greek. I smiled after knowing that Athena was the god of Wisdom in the Greek World.
I had a new perception of life when he reminded me that the king who asked God the gift of Wisdom was also written as the richest of all men in the same book and also God is the mightiest being just because he owns the whole package of Wisdom. I asked him what made him to read books so much unlike other youths like me and he told me that he likes debating, so as he wanted to win an argument with a concrete evidence, he had to know many things as possible if not everything, so he searched for right materials to read and found that non academic books were fantastic for him.
After having so deep conversation about Wisdom with my rabbi, who is of younger age than the wisdom he speaks, he then added that Tanzanian public figures and the government should support reading clubs for the future of our nation like how he founded AliGmx Reading Club in Tanzania also he suggested that native wise men should write more books to keep our wisdom in books for many more generations to come whom also should know our experiences and correct our mistakes so that in twenty years to come, Tanzania should be Africa's leading nation in terms of development.
The End.
