East African countries should rethink and renegotiate social contracts and independence for citizens to benefit from regional economic growth, a report on the state of east africa 2016 says.
The report states that inequality is rising in the region, and consolidating (integrating) this inequality will lead to problems in the region.
The report emphasises that the biggest task facing EAC countries isn't pursuing economic growth at any cost, but creating foundations for lasting human development in the region.
It concludes that the regional integration process should be people centred hence sustainable, and transformative to the lives of individual citizens.
