They sneak the president in through the back
When President Ruto has to spend the night and arrives at his hotel, he probably won't be strolling through the front doors. Could you imagine the president getting stuck in those revolving doors? It will be a Security nightmare. Instead, agents will use the hotel's loading bay, perhaps leading the president in through the kitchen
---
You may not realize this but whenever the president is travelling a lot of effort goes into preparation of his security. Kenyan presidents are protected by agents from the presidential protection unit mainly drawn from the National Police Service. Here are twelve ways in which the presidential guard makes sure that the president is safe while travelling around the country or abroad:
1. Agents come early
Presidential protection agents and State House staff first visit the president's destination weeks in advance to meet with local agencies. There's a lot to do: They have to clear airspace during the president's arrival, request a motorcade route through town, identify nearby trauma hospitals and secure safe locations for the president in the event of an attack.
2. They bring the dogs
As the president's arrival date nears, agents check each stop on the president's route with bomb-sniffing dogs and clear nearby streets of all parked cars to ensure that no one can plant a car bomb near the president's location. They may also set up canopies where the president will exit his limousine, so he's not exposed.
3. They notify hospitals
Agents must ensure that the president will never be too far away from a hospital, and an agent is stationed at each hospital, ready to coordinate with doctors and other agents in the event of a medical emergency.
4. They keep back up transport nearby
The president will usually arrive in the official jet or Kenya Air force helicopter. But before his official jet arrives, a backup will touch down at a secret location, just in case something happens to the primary mode of transport.
5. Dozens Of people are involved
An entourage fly in with the president in different planes or vehicles. Some of these planes will hold cargo, supplies and communication equipment, and others will hold agents and staff members. Every time he moves, dozens of people are involved.
6. They shut down highways
Sometimes the presidential guard may move the president "the wrong way" on highways, closing the entire road, to allow the 20-vehicle motorcade to cruise by.
7. They sneak the president in through the back
When President Ruto has to spend the night and arrives at his hotel, he probably won't be strolling through the front doors. Could you imagine the president getting stuck in those revolving doors? It will be a Security nightmare. Instead, agents will use the hotel's loading bay, perhaps leading the president in through the kitchen.
8. Agents background all hotel workers
Before the president arrives, the presidential guard run background checks on hotel employees. Anyone with any record of violence will be asked not to come in to work during the president's stay.
9. They clear out adjacent rooms of the hotel
In addition to the floor containing the president's suite, agents will also cordon off the floors above and below his room. No one, except those in the president's detail, will be allowed to stay in those rooms.
10. They throw out the electronics
Before the president arrives in his room, agents perform a complete sweep of all rooms where the president will be, they’ll check for bugging devices and concealed explosives. Then the agents will take apart all pictures to ensure nothing is hidden in the frames. They also place bulletproof screens over the windows. They also remove the phones and TVs to ensure the room is devoid of wiretapping and eavesdropping devices and replace them with their own secure electronics.
11. They set up multi layered perimeters
Agents establish layers of security perimeters around the president: Regular Police form the outer perimeter, The General Service Unit agents make up the middle perimeter, and Presidential Protection Unit agents provide the innermost shield. There are also a few snipers positioned at strategic locations.
12. They watch the food
When the president travels, he often brings his own food with him. He also brings along cooks and servers, who buy groceries and prepare food for the president separately in an available kitchen as security agents watch to make sure no one interferes.
