A recent report by Israeli non-profit IMPACT-se highlights deep links between senior educators in UNRWA schools in Gaza and terrorist groups Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad. More than 10% of principals and senior staff are affiliated with these groups, with many retaining their salaries after the October 7, 2023 Hamas massacre.
Educational practices in these schools reportedly glorify violence and promote hostility, such as presenting perpetrators of attacks as heroes and teaching extremist narratives.
The report also revealed that terror tunnels were discovered under two UNRWA schools, with school leaders directly linked to Hamas military brigades. Despite longstanding warnings, UNRWA has taken no significant action to address the incitement of violence or antisemitic content within its education system, raising concerns about the exploitation of young minds to perpetuate extremism.
Israel recently barred UNRWA from operating in the country due to these terror ties.
