Tight race for Rotterdam mayor - update
Thursday 16 October 2008
Just two people remain in the race for the job of Rotterdam mayor which will be decided by a special commission this afternoon, reports the NRC.
The Christian Democrat mayor of Maastricht Gerd Leers, who has been in the running for some time, has been joined by Labour party junior minister for social affairs Ahmed Aboutaleb, who only publicly announced his candidature this morning.
Two other candidates, Rotterdam councillor Wim van Sluis and former Liberal party minister Geert Dales, were not invited to attend this afternoon's commission meeting, the paper says.
