It is not so much the American presidential powers but more so who the president is. Take George Bush for example, some claim Dick Cheney was(is) more in charge behind the scenes than Bush was. Plus he had all the special interest groups from the big corporations to powerful Washington lobbyists that also influence his presidency. Major decisions during Bush's administration have been linked to these special interest groups for example going to war in Iraq. These groups single handedly shaped America's policy not Bush. Obama in my opinion will be even bigger puppet than Bush. Judging from his speeches and lack of substance, I don't see him coming up with any policies of his own. Only Ron Paul out of all presidential candidates would have been a real president. He is bright, principled, and he clearly articulated his policies. Unfortunately the media did not like him and his campaign was derailed.

Salma Kikwete to grace diplomatic spouses`...

The First Lady, Salma Kikwete, is expected to grace this year`s Charity Bazaar, organised by the Diplomatic Spouses Group of Dar es Salaam, slated for Saturday.

A statement issued yesterday in Dar es Salaam said the event would be held at the International School of Tanganyika Secondary School campus.

``This colourful annual event is a highlight of the diplomatic calendar of Dar es Salaam, with over 30 embassies and diplomatic missions selling food, household goods and handicrafts from their home countries,`` the statement read in part, adding:

``All proceeds from the bazaar are used to fund projects in Tanzania which benefit women, children and those with disabilities. Throughout the day bazaar goers will be entertained by performances from around the world.``

Dances from India, Ireland and the USA would be performed, while Tanzania House of Talent, Holland House Band, Mawingu Studio and the Maji Matitu Steel Band would also take part in the bazaar.

A treasure hunt, with prizes from Marry Brown, would take children around the bazaar to answer questions and collect gifts from different country stalls.

There would also be culinary delights from Africa, Asia, Europe and North America. For bargain-hunters, the White Elephant stall, organized by the UN Spouses Group, would display clothes, household goods, toys, among other things.

Anne Clarke, chair of the DSG fund-raising committee, said: ``I only wish those who contribute to the bazaar could come along when we visit our projects and see for themselves the happiness and hope they have helped to create.``

The statement said that in the afternoon a grand raffle would be drawn, with over 20 wonderful prizes to be won, including two KLM round-trip tickets to Amsterdam, an all-inclusive Coastal Travel safari to Ruaha, a tanzanite necklace from Lithos, a night for two and Sunday bruncherie at the Kilimanjaro Kempinski Hotel.

Last year`s bazaar raised over 40m/- that went to eleven projects, including Emusoi Centre for Pastoralist Girls, Buguruni School for the Deaf, the Women Legal Aid Centre, and the Mabinti Centre.
