Shebesh Fights with Sonko

nBeleaguered Nairobi Women Representative Rachel Shebesh was last Thursday night involved in a physical fight at a Nairobi hotel, that has left her nursing an arm injury.
According to multiple reliable sources, Shebesh checked in at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Upper Hill District accompanied by Nairobi County Senator Gidion Mbuvi shortly past 10pm.
A senior manager at the hotel told the Star yesterday that they booked the prestigious business suite on 5th floor for a meeting while being served drinks, where the duo are frequent patrons.
A few hours later, a shouting match ensued between the two long after their bodyguards had left.
"We could just hear her (Shebesh) throwing some unprintable words to the guest she was with. However, we could not access the suite as the lift to the 5th floor is controlled and restricted by our seniors and the private guests only," said the manager.
Sonko yesterday confirmed the incident but played it down saying we should not probe his private life.
He however confirmed that Shebesh had reported him to the Coalition of Violence Against Women (Covaw) lobby group that has since called him. Sonko claimed the women rep assaulted him and said he will be seeking legal redress in due course.
The Senator launched a scathing attack at the top leadership of Covaw for allegedly condemning and threatening to take legal action against him.
"I have been told that she (Shebesh) has reported the matter to Kilimani Police Station, but time will tell the truth. Men are being battered in silence but the so called Covaw which is composed of divorcees has the tenacity to attack men wherever they feel one of their own has been mishandled," he said yesterday.
Efforts to contact Shebesh were futile, as her phone went unanswered. We also could not reach Covaw yesterday.
In August, Sonko denied in an interview with a local daily that he was romantically involved with Shebesh.
“I love Rachel so much as a good friend, but people just exaggerate things. I haven’t slept with her. I don’t know why people want to spoil Rachel’s good name. There is no romantic link between us,” Sonko was quoted saying.
The incident comes hot on the heels of another incident which police are still investigating, where Shebesh and Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero were involved in a scuffle, with each claiming that they were assaulted.
Shebesh reported to Parliament Police Station that Kidero slapped her while the governor recorded a statement at Central Police Station alleging Shebesh hit him on the groin.

SHEBESH AND SONKO FIGHT AGAIN ABOUT "DISCUSSING UHURU WITH RAILA"

NAIROBI Senator Mike Sonko quarrelled with Nairobi MP Rachel Shebesh on Tuesday night for the second time in less than a week.
The two first fought last Thursday at Crowne Plaza Hotel in Upper Hill after they checked into the hotel around 10pm but then disagreed.
Audio recordings heard by the Star yesterday showed that the two quarrelled over former Prime Minister Raila Odinga round midnight at the Parliament bar. Parliamentary rules stipulate that the bar should closed at 11pm.
Until recently Sonko was close to Shebesh but in the recordings he is heard accusing her of discussing President Uhuru Kenyatta with Raila and with with politician Rosa Buyu.
Buyu is Raila's close ally who unsuccessfully ran for the Kisumu Town West parliamentary seat in March 2013.
Sonko was apparently infuriated that Shebesh had discussed politics on the telephone with Raila and Buyu.
"I have warned you before about discussing the President and government issues with Raila. What is this you are doing?," Sonko is heard asking Shebesh as he confronted her in Parliament with recordings of her phone calls.
It is not clear how Sonko obtained the recordings which shocked Shebesh.
In one recording, Shebesh and Buyu are heard discussing Uhuru's performance during the prayers breakfast at KICC on Tuesday for the victims of the Westgate terror attack.
"I'm beginning to like my President. Did you see how he was today?," Shebesh is heard telling Buyu in the conversation.
In another recording, Shebesh is heard talking about some people in Jubilee who do not like Raila yet she says it would be good for Jubilee to work with the the former Cord leader.
She told Buyu that some Jubilee people are uncomfortable with Raila because they fear he will overshadow Deputy President William Ruto.
Sonko was also unhappy that Shebesh had invited two Nairobi county representatives for a drink in Parliament with her on Tuesday night. He arrived at the bar close to midnight and found them there.
Shebesh is heard on a recording earlier that evening asking the county rep to enter Parliament through the main gate opposite County Hall. The rep is heard complaining that Sonko was angry that he was going for a drink with her and wondered how Sonko knew about their meeting.
Shebesh reassured him and directed him where to meet "because my car is in Parliament and I'm coming there".
Shebesh is also heard complaining about the Director of Public Prosecutions Keriakor Tobiko who she accuses of not supporting her in her alleged slapping case with Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero even though they had not reached a settlement.
In her lengthy conversation with Buyu, Shebesh said that she was with Tobiko's sister, Peris, during the phone call.
Shebesh was left sobbing after the bitter midnight exchange with Sonko. There were unconfirmed reports that she may have been injured on the face.
Shebesh is then heard asking for someone to call the driver of Deputy Speaker Lorna Laboso.
Until February, Shebesh was a key member of Raila's ODM party but she dumped the former Prime Minister a few weeks before the March election for President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Shebesh teamed up with Sonko and Ferdinand Waititu who was running for governor in Nairobi. She described herself as "manzi wa Nairobi" meaning Nairobi girl.
In September, Shebesh accused Nairobi governor Evans Kidero of slapping her during a fracas in his office. He accused her of grabbing his private parts.

NAIROBI, KENYA: Embattled Nairobi Women Representative Rachael Shebesh has now resigned from all Parliamentary committees following much publicized reports of her altercations with Senator Mike Sonko.

The Nairobi MP made the move following media reports that she has been involved in a physical fights with Sonko, twice in the past week.
She wrote to Jubilee Chief Whip Katoo Ole Metito informing him of her decision even as the Jubilee leadership in Parliament initiated efforts to reconcile her with Sonko. The resignation letter is copied to leader of Majority Aden Duale and TNA chairman Johnson Sakaja.
In the letter she also thanked her party TNA for according her the opportunity to serve in the select and departmental committees. Shebesh also told the Jubilee leadership that she has consequently withdrawn her candidature from the membership of Pan African Parliament, which is based in South Africa.
The standing orders provide that a member can resign from any committee by writing to the Chef Whip of his/her party and the party can replace that member.
Spying on Shebesh
This comes after Jubilee leadership had commenced initiatives to reconcile the two Nairobi leaders whose conduct has shed bad light on the ruling coalition.
On Wednesday evening, Duale and his deputy Naomi Shaban summoned the two to their Parliament office separately seeking to understand their cause of their differences.
The meeting was followed by another in the evening, outside Parliament where Metito and Sakaja met the duo separately.
