Key Responsibilities
- Produces written and video news packages for digital publication.
- Writes effective digital headlines, briefs and news stories that help attract audiences.
- Writes sharp and engaging social posts that attract audiences and encourage readers to click on the website link.
- Provides digital content for all platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
- Manages home pages to keep the website ticking with timely content.
- Has strong editing skills and is able to spot and fix issues related to grammar, spelling, punctuation and style.
- Manages workflow to meet digital deadlines.
- Stays calm under pressure and takes smart editorial decisions on big news events.
- A strong grasp of digital video and text production as well the knowledge of doing stories from start to finish, carrying it from the pitch stage to edit to delivery is a must.
- Ability to develop and pitch story ideas with compelling angles and with solid research to back them up.
- Understanding of story arc - how to start with the best news judgment and build visual narratives with strong footage.
- The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's in communications or media or significant working experience in news industry.
- Minimum 3 to five years of experience for candidates applying for Producer and Editor positions, and minimum 8 to 10 years of experience for candidates applying for Senior Editor and Senior Producer positions.
- Candidates should be fluent in one of the four languages: Swahili, French, Hausa, and English.
- We would love to have bi-lingual candidates with a working knowledge of one of the four languages.
