Shenzhen Star to build manufacturing plant for smart meters in Tatu City

Smart meters maker Shenzhen Star Instrument, has announced that it will expand its operations in Africa by building a manufacturing facility at Tatu Industrial Park. The new plant, which will produce and assemble metering solutions for energy, water and gas, will start construction in Q4 2019.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Ronald Kaburia, Managing Director of Shenzhen Star in Kenya, said that the investment at Tatu Industrial Park is part of the company’s strategic roadmap. “We are excited about our investment in Tatu City and its Special Economic Zone status. Our products will serve East Africa and the neighbouring regions,” said Kaburia. “We take pride in knowing that our business is transforming lives through technology, and we look forward to having a positive impact in Kenya and the rest of the African continent.”
Tatu City is a 5,000-acre, mixed-use development located in Kiambu County. It plans to have homes, schools, offices, a shopping district, medical clinics, nature areas, a sport and entertainment complex and a manufacturing area. Crawford International School recently launched in Tatu City. Leading local and international companies building their businesses at Tatu Industrial Park include Dormans, Kim-Fay, Unilever, Chandaria Industries, Africa Logistics Properties, Freight Forwarder Solutions, Stecol and Davis & Shirtliff. Other developments at Tatu City, a 5,000-acre new city, include schools by Nova Pioneer and Crawford International, as well as more than 5,000 homes under construction and development.
Shenzhen Star Instrument manufactures smart energy meters, smart water meters, intelligent data collection systems for energy (water and gas) meters, Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and electronic testing equipment and new energy car charging equipment. Its customers cover China State Grid, China Southern Power Grid, urban and rural utilities and other relevant industries in China, as well as major utilities in over 80 countries and regions across Asia, Africa, Middle East, Europe and Latin America.
