Six Chinese nationals arrested in Uganda after escaping quarantine
Six Chinese nationals who had arrived at Entebbe Airport aboard Ethiopian Airlines after they had flown in from Guangzhou in China. The area has been in the news recently for the mistreatment of Africans. The six then tried to flee to the neighboring D.R.Congo, using a van. The prosecution said that the six on March 19th left a hotel facility where they were supposed to be undergoing mandatory quarantine against COVID-19. They were subsequently arrested and tested.
According to sources, the six had escaped quarantine before two of them tested positive for the virus after they were arrested.
The case was temporarily put on hold as they entered government treatment for the virus. In a leaked charge sheet, signed by Acting Police Commissioner, in charge General Duties, Francis Olugu, all the accused face charges of doing an act likely to spread infection of disease which is contrary to section 171, of the Penal Code Act of Uganda Although Ugandan Courts have been closed due to the Pandemic special arrangements have been made to charge the Chinese suspects.
