INTRODUCTION

In a world of 7.9 billion people, there are about 4.48 billion social media users around the world in July 2021, equating to almost 57 percent of the total global population. That equates to annualised growth of 13.1 percent, or an average 16½ new users every single second.

THE REALITY.

Nowadays societies are more close to the world of networking and internet than they are to themselves to the point that they cannot even be aware of what is really going on surrounding them. However , truth be told, the use of internet has truly lot of benefits to the society but this to a great extent depends much on the awareness and priorities of users. Many ongoing events, knowledge, education and many other social Intel can be readily acquired in social media 24/7.

THE FEAR WE DON’T SEE.

The biggest fear of social media is that; societies put all their trust to social media believing that it is the source of any true information and always mistake a post as expert opinion. It has been difficult for users to be able to determine what to take and what not to from the internet.
It is ease to make the society to believe something which is not even true through social media use. People usually get trapped with false information received from the internet. Because of this, it has become possible to misinform the society for very critical matters. For example, there is a very big ongoing challenge about misinformation of vaccine by the society and lack of enough information regarding to this , sadly politics plays a significant role in either promoting or hindering the progress of vaccination, people borrow their ears to them more than the professionals ,to a great extent this has led to reverse towards improvements of global health as the information is of no professional proof but just people’s interest and misinformation.

SOCIAL MEDIA AND MENTAL HEALTH.

The social media addiction can be of serious mental health problem because it has emotional connections with users’ lifestyle. Social media addiction has cause reduction in offline relationships and people kept themselves socially isolated. Also the addiction has cause users to link even their serious inner life matters with social media because of freeness they feel since screens hide our faces. This results to unrealistic expectations as users prefer what they appear to be than what they really are and when they found it hard to accept the realities, they become psychological suffering.

WANT TO BE THE FIRST.

Fear of missing out things going on media at a right time cause users to keep themselves occupied all the time. It has been a pride being able to get the information early before others. Many students found themselves having irregular sleeping periods as they spend much of the time and wasting their energy on social media throughout the nights. Others have even allow social media to cut into time for other productive activities.

SOCIAL MEDIA FIGHTS SOCIAL SKILLS.

Modern youths are missing out on very critical social skills because of always staying on the screens for communication ever since their childhood. Texting and online communication puts youths in a nonverbal disabled context where body language, facial expression, and even some kinds of vocal reactions are rendered invisible. This cause lack of self-esteem and confidence to youths as they fail to acquire proper communication skills in a real world where they are required to face direct communications with the society which requires proper communication skills.

SOCIAL MEDIA AND GENDER-VIOLENCE.

Social media addiction brings users vulnerable to cyberbullying and imposter syndrome. Usually social media provides users with freedom to express and respond in anything and anyhow, the freedom with which real world never do. Here, users specifically children and youth are easier to get cruel and respond with sort of things that they can never attempt to say to anyone’s face. For example, for girls who typically don’t like to disagree with each other in real life are more often disagree in a way more extreme and do many times jeopardize the relationships. Girls are socialized more to compare themselves to other people, girls in particular, to develop their identities by projecting their idealized images. This makes them more vulnerable if received poor peer acceptance which leads to relational aggression associated with insecurity and awful self-feeling, and wanting to put others down so as to feel better.

WHAT TO DO?

Major digital organizations have responsibility to their users ensuring that they acquire clear proved information from media. They are also responsible to encourage proper use of social media for the benefit of their users.
Authorized organizations should be permitted to post ads that attract users to seeks necessary information from them should it be required.

These online efforts must be matched with physical efforts from the societies through various organizations. Parents and other guardians like teachers, regional leaders and elders must also be encourage to participate.
We love social medias because it brings us together, but this should start by bringing ourselves together first.

Thank you.
