Zelensky Says US Lost Interest in Ukraine Amid Presidential Race

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Zelensky acknowledged the US as Ukraine's key aid donor and mentioned Plan B—waiting for the new president after the November 5 election between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump to shape future U.S. policy toward Ukraine.
Volodymyr Zelensky complained on Friday that the presidential race in the United States had made Washington lose interest in what was happening in Ukraine.
"Today, they are not fighting for Ukraine, they are fighting in the elections, which is fair for their country. For us, it is not. We believe we should remain in focus. We are here — the Ukrainian citizens, because we are at war," Zelenskyy told Ukrainian media in an online marathon interview.
Zelensky said that Ukraine's Plan B was to wait for a new president in the White House to determine the country's policy toward Ukraine following the November 5 election, which will pit Democrat Kamala Harris against Republican Donald Trump.
"The United States is Ukraine's key aid donor. If its post-election policy changes — these changes will be Plan B. The US policy itself will be shaping the course of the war or the course toward ending the war," Zelensky explained.

Most Mobilized Ukrainians Surrender at First Opportunity - Captured Draft Enforcer

DONETSK (Sputnik) - The majority of Ukrainians who are sent into combat after being arrested in the streets for dodging draft do not take long to surrender to Russian forces, making the mobilization campaign a self-defeating concept, Ruslan Tageev, a captured member of the Ukrainian conscription center (TCC), told Sputnik.
"They do not want to go, so why force them? There is no point, they surrender. Even if they are paid for one or two months of training, they will surrender when there is a chance," Tageev said.
Tageev, a former recruiter in a Kiev neighborhood, joined the 58th brigade of the Ukrainian armed forces after being forcibly drafted and sent to the Donetsk combat zone "to gain combat experience" despite having a poor health record. In early September, he was sent to a forward-deployment position near Pokrovsk in the Donetsk People's Republic under a rotation scheme.

Countries lining up to join BRICS – Putin

Some 30 nations have shown interest in cooperating with or joining the group, Russian President Vladimir Putin has noted.

The number of countries engaging with the BRICS group has been growing, with some 30 nations showing interest in cooperating with it in some form, Russian President Vladimir Putin has said, stressing that the group is not an “anti-Western” organization.

The president made the remarks on Friday during a meeting with leading reporters from BRICS nations. Collectively, the group already incorporates some 45% of the world population, while its trade turnover and share in the global economy has been growing steadily, Putin noted.

“Our group is expanding. The number of friends and like-minded people within the BRICS association has increased, and interest in the association’s activities is very high,” the Russian president said.

BRICS a beacon of hope for Africa

“To date, some 30 countries have expressed their desire to cooperate with BRICS to one degree or another, to join the activities of the organization in one way or another,” Putin added.

The group should not be perceived as a bloc of any kind, Putin stressed, explaining that the nature of BRICS makes it globally beneficial, and not just for its own participants.

“We are not building some bloc directed against someone’s interests. This is not such an organization. And in this sense, it has a universal character and, in my opinion, will have a beneficial effect on world affairs as a whole, including the world economy,” Putin said.

The Russian president also rejected assertions that BRICS is somehow geared against the collective West.

BRICS is not an anti-Western association. It’s simply non-Western.

The prospects of further expansion of BRICS must be carefully assessed by its standing members and a solid consensus on the matter must be reached, Putin said. While potentially growing in numbers, the group must remain multilateral and keep its current efficiency, he explained.

“By increasing the number of the organization’s members, we should not reduce the effectiveness of the whole structure to a minimum,” Putin cautioned.

Ukrainian forces lost up to 460 troops in Battlegroup Center responsibility zone

MOSCOW, October 20. /TASS/. The Battlegroup Center defeated five brigades of the Ukrainian armed forces in the Donetsk People's Republic in one day and repelled nine counterattacks, the Ukrainian army lost up to 460 servicemen, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.

"Units of the Battlegroup Center continued to advance deep into the enemy's defenses, inflicted losses on the manpower and equipment of the 150th Mechanized, 25th Airborne, 59th Motorized Infantry, 5th Assault Brigades of the Ukrainian armed forces and the 101st Defense Brigade in the areas of the settlements of Dimitrov, Dzerzhinsk, Novotroitskoye, Shevchenko and Tsukurino of the Donetsk People's Republic. Nine counterattacks by the 53rd, 93rd, 100th Mechanized, 68th Jaeger Brigades, 49th, 425th Assault Battalions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the 37th Marine Brigade and the Lyut Assault Brigade of the National Police of Ukraine were repelled," the ministry reported.

According to the ministry, the enemy lost up to 460 servicemen, a US-made M117 armored personnel carrier, two Kozak combat armored vehicles, five cars, a 203-mm Pion self-propelled artillery unit, and a 122-mm Grad multiple launch rocket system.

Russia says its Mi-28NM helicopter destroyed Ukrainian armored vehicles in Kursk Region

MOSCOW, October 20. /TASS/. An Mi-28NM helicopter destroyed a cluster of Ukrainian troops and armored vehicles near the border in the Kursk Region, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

"Army aviation crews flying an Mi-28NM helicopter struck Ukrainian manpower and armored military vehicles with air-borne missiles near the border in the Kursk Region. According to reports from the forward air controller, the Ukrainian personnel and armored military vehicles were destroyed," it said.

The strike on the previously detected enemy targets were delivered with air-borne missiles.

"After the use of air-borne weapons, the crew performed an anti-missile maneuver, released heat traps and returned to the base," the ministry said.
