Dar es Salaam. Tanzania exported goods and services reached $6.776 billion during the year ended November, 2011, an increase by 19.9 per cent compared to the previous year, according to the ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs.

The ministry said, through its Macroeconomic Indicators Report issued last week, that non-traditional exports also went up by 21.3 per cent to $3.746 billion while the exports of manufactured goods decreased by 5.3 per cent to $868.8 million in value.

However, exports of non-traditional goods went up by 21.7 per cent to reach $647.6 million, thanks to higher export volumes and improved prices of coffee and tobacco.

During the said year, services receipt were $2.382 billion compared to $2.031 billion recorded in the year ending November, 2010, with much of the increase coming from travel and transportation. According to the 2010 International Visitors' Exit Survey Report, Italy, the UK and the US were identified as the major tourist source markets for Tanzania.

The survey observed that a number of international visitors, the average length of stay and average expenditure per person per night increased, contributing to the improvement in tourism earnings.

Meanwhile, the imported goods and services during the year ended November 2011 reached $11.580 billion an increase of 32.3 per cent to the amount imported during a similar period in 2010. The imported capital goods increased to $3.423 billion, which is an increase of 28.9 per cent to that of previous year. Value of oil imports increased by 49.7 per cent to $2.834 billion in the year ended November 2011
compared to $1.976 billion that was recorded during similar period under previous year. This was due to the rise in oil prices in the world market and increased demand for thermal power generation.

Because 99% of Tanzanians are employed directly by issues to do with politics. These empowerment things have got nothing to do with us.That is why I also cry for myself for not taking right decisions when I was a young energetic boy!

Our Balance or trade is only 3 Billion Dollars is not bad at all... if we will have Economically viable leaders, transparent, and also loving their motherland 4 real we will be a developing country ...

Hureeeeeeeeeey......We did it (Let me cheer up in the way my son does when he watches his favourate cartoon: Dora The Explorer or Mickey Mouse.)

Yes we exports, yes but how much come back for internal/local investment?? Tunaexport sawa, lakini hiyo export yetu inatuletea nini inside? how much is being invested back??

In principle, exported goods and services must be stated. Being close to inland countries such as Rwanda and others, it is possible for Tanzania to give records of goods exported from our ports regardless the origin of such goods. I am afraid that the figures showed might be 'kila kitu kilichopitia bandari zetu kwenda nje'. May be we exported minerals and timber. However, if we think timber and minerals are good deals....we are duped. Very few companies which are locally owned are involved in the two subsectors (minerals and timber). In fact, as it has been rightly put here by other Jamvi members - one must look beyond fingures of export! How much of the so called exports is coming from locally owned industries, companies? What should we expect in terms of returns on export (% of export)? Can we give an account of goods exported whose value has been intentionally reduced?

What I mean here, the country should not be celebrating of such low achievement! Actualy we have a great potential of export.

The figures give me a reason to celebrate. Kumbe tunaweza ku export na kurecord what we exported.

Dhahabu yetu! Almasi yetu! Tanzanite yetu! Mbuga zetu! Ardhi yetu!...CCM yetu! Kikwete wetu!

But atleast we have got people able of making wathungu laugh in some serious meetings

Action speaks louder than words. Huyo ndiyo Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, mwenye wivu ajinyonge!

Tutaangalia yote bila kupendelea halafu atachukua nafasi anayostahili. Tusianze kushangilia upande huu wakati kwingine kuna hatari ya kuporomoka. Lets give the due assessment time...and time heals everything!

HAKUNA rais yeyote kabla yake ambaye Inflation iliwahi kufikia 19.6%! FF ni vema kuangalia mambo in context (ki-muktadha) zaidi badala ya kuangalia issues in isolation. Hii inakufanya uwe-poor analysit! Samahani kama nimekuudhi!
