In a report by BBC, Alliance for Change and Transparency (ACT) issued a statement condemning Kabwe's arrest accusing President Pombe Magufuli of stepping on the rights of other citizens.
Recently, Kabwe was found guilty of sedition and barred from making public statements for one year.
Human rights groups have accused Magufuli of shrinking the democratic space with only members of the ruling party being allowed to campaign publicly despite a ban on the same.
Some major newspapers have been shut down with the latest one being Daima Daily which was closed down on Tuesday without any reason for closure being offered to the company.

Non-governmental organizations’ work has also been severely restricted.
Kabwe had been a vocal critic of Magufuli’s administration and his approach in dealing with the coronavirus pandemic.
