Tanzania will maintain its agreements with an Adani Group subsidiary despite the recent indictment of Gautam Adani, the group’s billionaire chairman, on charges of bribery and fraud, a senior ports authority official confirmed.

Last week, Adani and his nephew faced fraud charges and arrest warrants over allegations of orchestrating a $265 million scheme to bribe Indian officials for power-supply contracts. Adani Group has denied the accusations.

In May, Tanzania signed a 30-year concession with Adani Ports, a unit of Adani Group, to manage Container Terminal 2 at Dar es Salaam Port. The deal also included the acquisition of a 95% stake in state-owned Tanzania International Container Terminal Services for $95 million.

"We have no issues with anyone. All our activities are conducted within the framework of our laws and agreements," said Plasduce Mbossa, Director General of the Tanzania Ports Authority, speaking to Reuters on Tuesday. He emphasized that Tanzania had no allegations of wrongdoing regarding its contracts. "If others are taking actions, they are doing so based on their circumstances."

Meanwhile, in neighboring Kenya, President William Ruto recently cancelled a deal with Adani to construct power transmission lines. He also rejected proposals for a second runway and terminal upgrades at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, which would have involved a 30-year lease agreement.

Tanzania has decided to continue with its agreements with Adani Ports, despite the recent indictment of Gautam Adani and his nephew by U.S. authorities on charges of bribery and fraud.

According to Tanzania's Ports Authority Director General, Plasduce Mbossa, Tanzania is acting according to its laws and agreements, and they don't have any issues with the ongoing projects.
