Kenya exports to Agoa (2016) = $394 million
If we were an LDC country exporting such a tiny amount, we would also ban second hand clothes and hence get denied the Agoa market.
Right now this Agoa supports thousands of Kenyan jobs at EPZ Athi River.
We will phase out mitumba in a way that does not kill many jobs. For instance, EPZ companies have for the first time been allowed to sell their clothes locally.
We are also reviving textile companies and creating new ones.
Parting shot - Mitumba are bad for the country, but when you want to poison your enemy, make sure you don't drink the same poison.

You've just described Tanzania for the last 20 years.
But this was not a 'block' decision. Not like the deal with EU where it was mandatory we are all in or all out.
Entry into Agoa was an individual country thing not an EAC thing. That's why the likes of Nigeria and Ghana and Zambia are members.
If you make decisions as a country that will jeopardize your place in Agoa (understandable for an LDC), then that's your own decision.

In this era, we will no longer follow Kenya's move . We are out of EPA, now out of AGOA, next to black list all Kenyans projects because, we have realized that capitalists uses you as a door to destabilize and kill your fellow East Africans states in different spheres of development.
That's why soon we will shut down all foolish projects owned by Kenyans or any body investing from Kenya in Tanzania through EAC' shoulders.
Tutawaua ninyi nyang'auz and soon, KCB Bank and Kenya airways activities will be banned too.
If EAC was in Asia, Kenya is South Korea, Tanzania is North Korea.
