I have learnt to always not trust politicians.I have also learn that most Tanzanians are Politicians in their own capacity and hence I can conclude that I have learnt not to trust Tanzanians.
We are mourning the passing of JPM with alot of rhetorics, headline and Camera friendly swags which is typical of Tanzania? But what are we mourning? Are we mourning that Tanzania will not be in his absence a better nation? Are mocking the incumbent and his predecessor? What are we mourning?Or is there a cliche of people who will benefit from the enlargement of Magufuli to a super human or semi deity status?
I am not a fan of Magufuli not when he was alive nor as a casket. To me he was one of our own,a good leader in his capacity and yet human. Our attempts to exalt him might lead us to blasphemy which is what we are almost doing. Based on my standards JPM was no angel incapable being wrong but he was to perfect to acknowledge his own imperfection. To me JPM is not an intellectual, he was too arrogant to appreciate intellect. To me he was on leader who happened to be at the helm of leadership when our country was in need of some kind of leadership and as they say being at the the right place in the right time can make a huge difference in your destiny.
But My aim is not to talk about the deceased, My prayers are with his family and the people of Tanzania as we mourn the loss of our leader and president, Mine is to talk about the Facade that Tanzanians have been displaying and which has been orchestrated by the cliche that is trying to find ways to ensure that the keep hold of the system as they know that things are about to change.
There are many inferior and incompetent people who were benefiting from JPM regime, that is a fact. These people are concerned not for the future of the country but their own future, their career. They never anticipated his passing and to them it is a shock and even the prolonged and exalted burial ceremony as well as suspected delay in declaring his passing could be in part due to their effort to try to find ways to keep their hold and influence.
What these people are forgeting is that none of them can be like Magufuli in the absence of Magufuli. In his absence they are just cowards and losers trying to look good in office. Yes it is a fact. Magufuli was his own man, since the time when he was minister. He was not the kind of person to take lightly. He was true to himself and to his people but he was far from Perfect. As they say, he was a compromise candidate and he indeed compromised us all. His unpredictable nature and self belief made him into some kind of a dictator although he was not dictating any one except trying to make his presence felt. He was aware that people loved him but enough to make him their president. He knew that people adored him but not enough to make him a president.
He was aware this fact before he became a president and during his whole presidency. He was aware of the fact that people had a love hate relationship with him. The loved what he was doing but did love how he was doing it. Tanzanians loved what he was doing, trying to keep things going but most people except the few people who benefitied from his system did not like his ways but still there was no better way. Things needed to get done and somebody had to do them and JPM was the man for the JOB.
As I write this article I know and honour his memory, I celebrate his life and wish him luck on the other side knowing that his life here was a life well lived. BUT the FACADE that Tanzanians are putting up as they mourn him, that is just NONSENSE. It is an insult to his memory. It is the working of the little group that felt safe under his regime that annoys me most.
Magufuli was our leader, he deserves respect and honour but the fact remains, he was human and let the man rest where he is. Lets honour his legacy and complete the work that his started but above all, right the wrongs of his regime by the grace of GOD.
REST IN PEACE COMRADE JOHN JOSEPH MAGUFULI and LET your LEGACY not BE TAINTED.
