Tanzania has injected $2m (about Shs4b) to the cash-strapped East African Community as the secretariat came under fire from the regional legislators of its handling of the budget matters.
The secretary general, Mr Juma Mwapachu, told the East African Legislative Assembly, whose sitting nearly aborted because of the cash crisis, that the money was transferred to EAC account through the Bank of Tanzania on Wednesday.
He added that Rwanda had also promised to remit some $1m (about Shs2b) to the secretariat as part of its budgetary contributions as well as its obligations to salvage the EAC.
He said besides Tanzania and Rwanda, other member states have promised to remit their budgetary contributions, other countries have started to settle their outstanding payments to run the EAC secretariat.
My Take:
I think we Tanzanians know that we are rich, but like to think we are poor or we are poor people who pretend to be rich!!.. or I don't know!
