Elders of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Tanzania have urged the community to engage in prayer to stay close to Allah, stating that this helps prevent them from dwelling on things that displease God and ultimately preserves good morals.
Swaleh Pazi, Chairman of the Community's Adult Members Group, which includes individuals aged 40 and above, spoke at a conference for these members held last weekend. He highlighted the significant role of prayer in guiding society back to the right path.
The three-day conference, which involved over 250 participants, took place at the Ahmadiyya Centre in Kitonga, Msongola Ward, Ilala Municipality, Dar es Salaam.
Pazi explained that the conference brings together members of the age group to evaluate their yearly goals, including health assessments through different sports activities aimed at maintaining good health.
He mentioned that the slogan for 2024 is “Without a doubt, prayer prevents shameful and evil deeds,” a message received from their leader, who resides in the UK.
Further explaining the importance of prayer, Swaleh Pazi said, “Prayer is an essential link between a person and God. Through prayer, there is much guidance; one can avoid many evil things. When you are busy with prayer, you cannot be preoccupied with foolish things, and prayer will make you fear God.
“A religion without the practice of prayer is a satanic religion. The presence of prayer brings peace to the world. We urge people to pray because prayer can help eliminate corruption.
“We want people to fear God, not forget Him, and be thankful to Him. They should not forget to thank God as they celebrate the end of the year with big festivities.
“When the new year begins, we must have good intentions, to fear God, as 2025 is an election year. May God grant us a good and peaceful election.”
Another participant at the conference, Mahamudi Mubilu, said, “If God wills, by 2034 we will have reached 100 years since the community was registered in Tanzania. This is a significant and important milestone.”
Yusuph Mgeleka, a member from Shinyanga and a resident of Kahama, said that he has benefited by strengthening his faith and growing closer to Allah.
He stated that this age group serves as a role model for young people, and that conferences like these serve as reminders to youth and the entire community about good upbringing.
He explained, “When we see a decline in values, we pray together and share ways to educate and guide the community.
“A conference like this is like being in the kitchen being prepared so that when we leave, we have something to offer and teach others we will live among.”
