The hosts really were a joy to watch at times in the second half after coming through a brief Newcastle revival to showcase their talent with a number of well crafted moves. After United's victory against Sunderland earlier in the day, they were asked for a response and they've delivered one with a one-sided rout. It finishes Manchester City 4-0 Newcastle at the Etihad Stadium today and the visitors are once again in trouble after back-to-back defeats have seen them slip back into relegation contention.

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has revealed that Mario Balotelli is missed by his former team-mates at the Etihad Stadium. The Italian international, who is notorious for his temperamental behaviour and farcical stunts, was sold by City in the January window to AC Milan after his training session bust-up with Mancini earlier in the season. City’s patience with the talented forward was already running thin. His physical altercation with the manager eventually forced the club to do away with him, selling him for an estimated £19m to Milan. Balotelli may have been a pain in the head for Mancini, but he has proved to be profitable acquisition for the Italian giants. The striker seems to be enjoying his spell in his home country, having already scored seven goals in just six league appearances. Although many believe that Balotelli’s disciplinary issues had cost City dearly, Mancini revealed that his team-mates still held charitable views about him. The Italian tactician said that the striker was badly missed by his former colleagues at the Etihad Stadium and was delighted to see the 22- year-old do well in the Serie A. “His team-mates miss him very much," Mancini told Panorama. "They miss his genius. “He can do what others cannot even think of. We are all very happy he is doing well at Milan.” The 48-year-old also insisted that he never carried any doubts over the striker’s potential, but accused him of not utilising his abilities to full affect at City. He added: “Mario has everything to be one of the best in the world, but at the moment he only uses 50 per cent of his ability. That is what made me angry.”

As one would expect, City stories are light on the ground this Easter Monday morning. A bit of a rummage around though does reveal a few reports concerning the Blues, including a call from captain Vincent Kompany for a strong finish to the season. The skipper has been speaking after his return to competitive club action after spending over two months on the side-lines with a calf injury. “Kompany concedes retaining their title looks unlikely with Manchester United so far ahead,” reports Sky Sports News . “But the centre-back points to their fine end to the 2010-11 season as one of the reasons they clinched the title last year.” Kompany said: “I feel there is still a lot to look forward to.” “Whichever way we finish this season might set us up for the next one. “I always remember the way we finished the season before last. We ended on equal points with Chelsea, which was a massive boost, secured a place in the Champions League and also won the FA Cup. “The year after that we went on to win the title. The end of one season has an impact on how you start the next one.” Meanwhile, Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has admitted even his best players would have struggled against an inspired City side on Saturday. “The Magpies went into the clash depleted by injuries to key players such as Tim Krul, Fabricio Coloccini, Hatem Ben Arfa and Cheikh Tiote and those absences proved telling as the hosts outclassed their opponents,” reports goal.com . “However, speaking to reporters after the game, Pardew suggested that even a full strength Newcastle line-up may have struggled to cope with a Manchester City side determined not to end their season with a whimper.” Finally, according to The Sun, on loan City defender Wayne Bridge is at the centre of a ‘transfer tug of war,’ between Championship rivals Cardiff and Brighton. “The Manchester City defender has spent the season on loan with the Seagulls after being frozen out at the Etihad,” writes Colin Trott. “And boss Gus Poyet is keen to make the move permanent in the summer if his side gain promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs. “But Cardiff manager Malky Mackay has also sounded out the ex-England left back’s about a switch to the Welsh capital.”

TEV GEARS UP FOR DERBY

TEVEZ HAS BEEN BACKED TO STICK BOOT INTO OLD CLUB BY PAL PABLO ZABALETA — PROVIDING HE AVOIDS A PRISON SENTENCE TODAY

Published: 2013-04-03 JUDGEMENT DAY ...

CARLOS TEVEZ has been backed to drive old club Manchester United mad again next week — providing he avoids a prison sentence today. The Manchester City forward will be in Macclesfield Magistrates’ Court this morning charged with various motoring offences after he was stopped in Cheshire last month. He faces a six-month jail sentence if found guilty — although he is expected to be given community service. That would mean he is clear to carry on preparing for the Manchester derby on Monday and trying to halt his former club’s relentless title charge.
And close pal Pablo Zabaleta says his fellow Argentinian never lets any off-field distractions affect his performances on the pitch. The City right-back said: “It doesn’t seem to bother him. Roberto Mancini said last time he hopes the police will stop him again because it looks like it is a great motivation for him. “It was just a small mistake by Carlos. He knows now he has to be calm otherwise he is going to be in trouble. Now he has got some friends to bring him to Carrington every day.” It is nearly four years since Tevez, 29, quit United and made the controversial switch across Manchester to the Etihad.
Yet Zabaleta believes it remains a special occasion for the forward. He said: “Every time we play against United it is a particularly special game for Carlos. “He has always done well against them. He was a United player once and I’ve seen him play with great passion against United. “It will be a special day for Carlos and a special day for the team.”

ALEX'S REF RIDE FOR MANC DERBY ALEX FERGUSON WILL COME FACE TO FACE WITH MIKE DEAN AGAIN ON MONDAY AFTER HE WAS NAMED REF FOR THE TOP-TWO CLASH

Published: 2013-04-03 CAN'T FER-GET IT ...

Man Utd boss Alex Ferguson rows with Mike Dean ALEX FERGUSON will come face to face with Mike Dean again on Monday after he was named as referee for the Manchester derby.

United boss Fergie launched a furious tirade at the Wirral official during the half-time interval of his side’s thrilling 4-3 Boxing Day win over Newcastle at Old Trafford. Fergie was incensed at Dean’s decision to allow Toon’s second goal to stand — with opposing boss Alan Pardew later saying the Scot should have been sent off.

Yet the FA eventually decided not to take any action against Ferguson. A win over City would put United 18 POINTS clear and leave them needing four points from seven games to secure a 20th title. And United’s Patrice Evra cannot wait to get over the double disappointment of Champions League and FA Cup KOs at the hands of Real Madrid and Chelsea. Evra said: “It hurt a lot when we lost to Real and defeat to Chelsea was another sad day. Now we focus on the league. It’s nearly done.” United striker Wayne Rooney (groin) is winning his battle to be fit for the City clash.

MAN CITY ACE HANDED 250 HOURS COMMUNITY SERVICE FOR DRIVING OFFENCES THE 29-YEAR-OLD MANCHESTER CITY STRIKER HAS ALSO BEEN SLAPPED WITH A £1000 FINE AND A SIX-MONTH DRIVING BAN

MANCHESTER City ace Carlos Tevez has been given 250 hours of community service, a six- month driving ban and a £1000 fine for driving offences. The £200,000-a-week striker was taken to court after being caught driving without insurance and with no licence in March. Magistrate Elizabeth Depares told him: “You must realise you are a role model for thousands, if not millions, of fans. Nobody is above the law, and you should not have been driving. “We have heard you are sorry. It is now up to you to ensure you will not be brought before the court again.” He was driving his white Porsche Cayenne when he was stopped on March 7 by cops as he left a golf club after an anonymous tip-off.

This was despite being banned from driving for six months in January at Manchester Magistrates’ Court. He pleaded guilty this morning in his native Spanish with the aid of an interpreter as he stood in the dock at Macclesfield Magistrates’ Court. Argentinian Tevez, 29, who gave his full name as Carlos Alberto Tevez, has not yet got a UK driving licence – partly because he struggled with the English theory test.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of failing to furnish information relating to incidents in which his car was clocked speeding in January. Tevez did not attend the that hearing but was represented by his solicitor who told the court the footballer failed to respond to letters because he did not recognise the word “constabulary”.

YAYA’S YES TO NEW DEAL

WORLD EXCLUSIVE: HE HAS AGREED TO PUT PEN TO PAPER ON A NEW CONTRACT WORTH £220,000 A WEEK FOR FOUR YEARS AT MAN CITY

YA PHEW! ... City have convinced Toure to stay

YAYA TOURE is set to sign a new £45million deal at Manchester City. He has agreed to put pen to paper on a new contract worth £220,000 a week for four years. The Ivory Coast superstar, 29, has been locked in talks with City officials since he got back from international duty last week. Midfielder Toure had become disillusioned at after contract talks had stalled for six months.

His agent Dimitri Seluk exclusively revealed to SunSport last month that Toure was ready to quit unless his contract was sorted out quickly. City’s response was instant — and they moved to thrash out a new deal to hold on to one of their biggest stars.

Toure, who joined from Barcelona in a £24m switch in July 2010, has been fundamental to City’s success in the last couple of years.

KOMPANY BUY-OUT

VINCENT KOMPANY’S FALL-OUT WITH ROBERTO MANCINI HAS PUT EUROPEAN FOOTBALL’S SUPER POWERS ON A TRANSFER RED ALERT

IN IT TO VIN IT ...

Europe's biggest clubs are weighing up bids for Vincent Kompany VINCENT KOMPANY’S fall-out with Roberto Mancini has put Europe’s super powers on high alert. Manchester City boss Mancini criticised his skipper last week after he returned from two months out with a damaged calf in Belgium’s clash with Macedonia.

The Etihad boss insisted Kompany, 26, should have put his club first after such a lengthy absence — and Belgian sources say the City centre-back was unhappy at the public outburst.

Now Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are all watching with interest and are likely to make a move at the end of the season, especially if Mancini remains in charge. Barca tried to sign him last year but Kompany eventually signed a new five-year deal with City.
