Manchester City purchase Melbourne Heart 23 January 2014 01:17 A consortium led by Manchester City have bought A-League club Melbourne Heart, with the owners of NRL club Melbourne Storm also involved. After struggling to make an impact on and off the field since making their debut in the competition in 2010, Heart had been the subject of a bid from Victorian Premier League club South Melbourne last year. The club sacked coach John Aloisi in December following a disastrous start to the 2013-14 campaign, replacing him with predecessor John van 't Schip, and only narrowly avoided setting a new record of 20 consecutive matches without a win, beating the Newcastle Jets last Friday. But the struggling outfit are now set to receive an enormous boost, with City – owned by a member of the United Arab Emirates' ruling family – set to provide a major influx of business and football expertise. "We are excited about the opportunity to make Melbourne Heart one of the most successful football clubs in Australia and throughout the region," City chief executive officer Ferran Soriano said in a statement. "We believe the strong sports culture of Melbourne combined with the football and commercial expertise within our consortium will make for a powerful combination both on and off the pitch." According to joint statements released by City and Heart, Van 't Schip and the existing Heart playing staff are set to stay in place for now, with no major announcements about changes to be made until 'mid-2014'. "The first thing we must do is take the time to listen and learn and then to develop our strategy for strengthening the club over time," Soriano said. Football Federation Australia chief executive David Gallop heralded the announcement as an indication of the A-League's continuing growth. "Football has moved into the mainstream of Australian sport and is ideally placed to benefit from the boom in football across Asia," Gallop said. "Manchester City and their Australian partners have made a strategic investment and I welcome them to our growing competition. "It's another sign that the world is taking notice of Australian football." Manchester City have also expanded into North America, with New York City set to make their Major League Soccer debut in 2015.

Important information regarding stadium access for tomorrow's game against Watford.

Due to service diversion works at the Etihad Stadium, supporters are urged to arrive early to avoid any delays when entering the stadium.
Specifically, supporters using Entrances K or B could face delays, and supporters, who usually use Commonwealth Way to approach Entrances N to T, (towards the South West corner of the stadium), will be redirected along Ashton New Road.
Access to the Etihad Campus & Etihad Stadium
Hoardings have been erected at the South end of the stadium to ensure that the service diversion works can be carried out safely.
Supporters using Entrance K
These works have an impact on supporters using Entrance K. K1 will be operational as usual, however K2 will not. Your Seasoncard is activated for Entrance B also, and we ask you to consider using this turnstile to enter the stadium.
Entrances N, P, R, S & T will not be accessible by supporters entering the stadium complex from Commonwealth Way. Supporters will be redirected onto Ashton New Road and will re-enter the site at the South end of the stadium opposite Entrance P.
Due to the above changes, we advise all supporters that use the Entrances affected to arrive and enter the stadium earlier than usual to avoid any delays in accessing the stadium prior to kick-off.

Silva and Negredo to sit out Watford tie 24-01-2014 16:44 Spain internationals David Silva and Alvaro Negredo will miss Manchester City's FA Cup fourth-round tie against Watford on Saturday. • Brewin: City fear factor Negredo, who is City’s 23-goal top scorer, is a doubt for the Premier League trip to Tottenham on Wednesday with a shoulder injury. He was hurt in the final few minutes of the 3-0 win over West Ham on Tuesday when he landed awkwardly after a challenge from James Tomkins, but Pellegrini does not believe he will not be a long-term absentee. He said: "We will see in the next days how his shoulder reacts from the work he is doing. Maybe in one week he will be OK. The first opinion [is that], yes, it is a small injury. He is not ready for Watford." City are already without one of their attacking midfielders, in the injured Samir Nasri, and Pellegrini confirmed that Silva will also sit out the clash with the Hornets at the Etihad Stadium. He added: "David Silva has some problems. He is not 100 percent fit. It is just a precaution -- we will not take any risks. He has some pain in his hamstring, but nothing important." Pellegrini said he would rotate his squad for the cup tie -- as he did for the Capital One Cup semifinal second leg at Upton Park -- adding: "We are going to make some changes." The Chilean is expecting a tough game against Watford, who were playoff finalists last season but are only 15th in the second tier this time around and have not won away for almost four months. He added: "There is more motivation for a Championship team to beat a Premier League team, so I am absolutely sure we are going to have a very difficult game." And he played down suggestions that City would make signings in the January transfer window, flippantly referring to rumours linking them with other players. He said: "If we talk about the all the offers this club [is supposed to have] made, we have at least eight goalkeepers, five centre-backs, nine forwards. There is no news for the moment."

6. The pacy Anya again looks to threaten but a combination of Pantilimon and Richards stops the striker in his tracks. City yet to get going

11. Navas' freekick isn't dealt with convincingly by the Hornets and it takes two attempts from Bond to gather the ball

13. Navas' corner is flicked on at the near post and Lescott is an inch away from converting but the Watford man clears just in time
