What a strange state Kenya is....

Welcome to Kenya, the land whose first President was originally named Kamau Ngengi but later changed to Jomo Kenyatta, to suit his political ego. This is the only country, perhaps in the whole world, whereby politicians put the citizenry on a five year poll cycle mode after every general election. This is Kenya: Where only three tribes that have now become Kenyans political dynasties that have driven the politics of the entire nation for decades. These are the Kikuyu, the Luo and the Kalenjin.

It's in this country that every five years during the general election, we have what one Ugandan columnist called election tourists who run away to capitals of the neighbouring countries of Uganda and Tanzania, and those who can afford to fly to Dubai or down to South Africa, to avoid the impending post-election violence that is anticipated to break out every time there is an election.

It's here in Kenya, where if you want to get rich quickly, you just need to join politics as an MCA, or an MP. You instantly become a billionaire.

It's only in Kenya, where the national woman's football team, Harambee Starlets, does better in international matches than their male counterparts. This is the country that was described by the founding father of Tanzania Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, as a man-eat-man society, where there are 10 billionaires and 10 million poor people. It's only in this country where street begging has become a profession.

A country where hairstylists and company drivers become instant billionaires, thanks to rampant corruption in high office. It's here that we worship anybody who has managed to squander public money.

It's only in Kenya where no politician has ever taken responsibility and resigned over corruption allegations in their ministries or departments, and everything goes on as if nothing ever happened. Others have gone on record vowing that "they'd rather die than resign" over graft allegations.

This is Kenya where, as it is currently happening, there is a sad state of affairs as tens of thousands of workers are laid off in an economy that is said to be among the strongest in the East and Central African region. Right now, over 20 private companies, including banks and major manufacturers, are in the process of laying off employees.

Welcome to Kenya, where an untrained fellow could disguise as a medical doctor, perform surgeries and even help deliver babies in a government hospital without being detected, and when he is finally discovered and released, received in pomp and colour like a hero in his village.

It's here in Kenya where for a twilight lady to proclaim that she's a socialite is licence enough for her to become successful in life and grab national attention in the media and social media platforms. These type of women in Nairobi and all other major towns in Kenya, the so-called pop media socialites, simply known for no other quality other than size of their backsides, which go by various names, like fundamentals madia and hagaa.

It's here in Kenya that the government is shielding warlords from neighbouring countries who are tearing their country apart. It's in this very country, where despite having plenty of rains throughout the year, we still cry of drought during dry spells and beg for food from donors.

It's here in this country where anybody who can construct a makeshift church and convene a congregation of more than three members is a pastor, and you can graduate to become a Bishop thereafter.

It's here that anybody with a white foreign friend from either the US or the UK or if you are broke, you can start a non-governmental organisation with a cut-and-paste project to receive funds from abroad.

It's only in this country that traffic police officers have hefty bank accounts balances transacted through their
M-Pesa accounts.

It's only in Kenya where anybody with an eighth size of a land in Kamulu along Kangundo Road, on the outskirts of Nairobi, worth Sh150, 000 introduces himself or herself as a real estate developer. But then all said and done, this is Kenya. I thank God for being a Kenyan.

I stopped reading on the fourth paragraph where he says.......It's only in Kenya, where the national woman's football team, Harambee Starlets, does better in international matches than their male counterparts...

I have no time to listed to anyone who thinks of women like that.... The writer is part of the problem, not the solution, we should first begin by getting rid of him in that proffession..... Every achievement by a Kenyan is an achievement for us all, the time where women won more medals than men at world athletic championship, all the times women volleyball have topped Africa.... I guess women don't count as achievements to him, he is still waiting for a male Wangari mathai (God rest her soul) to win a Nobel price in peace and environment

I stopped reading after the second paragraph this guy is not even kenyan

Maybe you didn't understand the author, he embrace the achievement of Kenyan women. If only you know the history of women discrimination around the world. It's kind of turn around when women do better than men who dominate all outdoor activities for centuries. Usiwe kuchwa maji, soma uelewe.

Let me give him the Kenyans we are
Being a 254
December 9, 2016 by simramablog

After independence in 1963, from the British colonialists a new country with a code 254 was born. Kenya: The origin of the word Kenya is quite obscure, no history written actually proves the origin of the word, but many believe that it must have originated from the Kikuyu word Kiri-Nyaga, or Embu-Kirenyaa, or Kamba-Kinyaa. If we go by this words, then Kenya will basically mean “Gods Dwelling place” Other translations from the Word Kiri-Nyaga, when referring to mount Kenya can mean, Mountain of whiteness.

In essence every definition of the word Kenya is positive to spirituality and being a blessed people and country. With who walks in the light and whiteness. That is later affirmed in the National Anthem which in itself is a prayer. Not like many countries which boast about their greatness in the national anthems, Kenya seeks to glory God first in their Anthem!!

But what are the true identities of Kenya and its people?

Kenyans are known in positives and negatives in equal measure. But in all aspects, it has made Kenya stand out among many countries in the world.

Samburu
Kenya is endowed by beautiful people, physical features and climate. The beauty culminates from the diversity. Kenya’s people are of diverse origin. Different cultures have doted the 254 from corner to Corner. From the world celebrated Maasai culture to the beautiful Swahili culture at the coast. You will lack nothing on people’s diversity with over 43 language groups.

Snow capped Mt. Kenya

Lamu Kenya
Natural physical features in Kenya are more diverse just like its people. There is no Geographical relief feature that lacks in Kenya, From snow capped Mountain to the tropical rain forests, the semi arid and the arid regions to the beautiful coastal low lands. The undulating mountain ranges are breath, talk of Chyulu hills!! The lakes of all kinds including crater lakes lava damed rift valley lakes and downward lakes, all adding to the magnificence of the 254.

But what defines Kenyans?

In all this diversity the Kenyan people have come to develop a general culture, that distinguishes them from the rest of the people in the world. They are the Kenyan traits. Unique traits just for Kenya.

The ego of a Kenyan can not be compared to any!!! The proud nature of Kenyans is always felt any place they set their feet. You will sometimes hear them say, “This is Kenya” When in the country the Kenyans isolate themselves into tribal lines, but once anything steps out on the international forum, they are quick to unit and speak as one.

On some instances, a group of Kenyans on Twitter famously known as KOT has launched online on-slots to prominent institutions both nationally and internationally. This is the most prominent online group that has lived to win any given twiffs(Twitter wars). A few months ago, they took on CNN for calling Kenya a hotbed of Terrorism. The CNN management had to apologize and sent its representative in person to Kenya on the mission of clearing the air on the subject. Later BBC world service had to do a research on how effective Kenyans are interconnected online. The findings shocked the researcher who discovered that the Kenyans were connected online than they even thought.

When Kenyans are discussing among themselves one tends to think they are the most unpatriotic people in the world, they will keep on lashing at their leaders uttering very unpatriotic words. One mistake you should not do is, come from foreign land and assume that you will thrive in their difference. You will be wrong. Kenyans are the most patriotic people. Following comments from Kenyans on international forums like Jamii Forums, one gets the picture of who Kenyans are. They never give up on trying to make sure their country emerges as the best. They water down any attempt to make Kenya look second to any!

Excerpt from Jamii Forum
One will argue that this is the impetus of the resilient spirit shown by the Kenyans in many years. every time Kenyans are hurt by outside offenders, they always come together to show the enemy that whatever happens, Kenya is one. They pick themselves up and continue matching forward . When there was terrorist attacks, Kenyans of all walks of life came together to offer any needed help. After it goes by, they keep their head focused and open whatever had been affect, just like what they did to Westgate. The reopening of Westgate and Garissa university was a sign of great resilience among Kenyans. In the past few years, terrorists have been on the campaign to put a wedge between Christians and Muslims in Kenya. No matter how had they tried, Muslims and Christians in Kenya spoke in one voice. Recent attempt in Mandera saw Muslims shielding Christians from Alshabab who had ambushed one bus and demanded to kill Christians! Muslims in the bus did a heroic action of refusing the Alshabab to divide them. They told them “we are Kenyans and if you want kill us all.” That was the strongest message that went to the terrorists that Kenyans can never be divided by any external force.

When Kenyans Go out there during events like Olympics, they always strive to lift the name of Kenya and the flag high. Kenya is the only African country that always appear among the big names like the USA and China during such events. During this time you will see and hear Kenyans boasting how great their country is irrespective of the region they come from.

Kenya leads the table in World athletics Championship 2015
Other traits in Kenyans, is their innovative and aggressive nature. Kenyans have developed many innovations that becomes a wonder in the world innovation spheres. They range from scientific to social. Examples includes the Mpesa, Huduma center services, and recently a social app that has been used world wide to map centers of conflict, Ushahidi.Ushahidi app has recently been used in The USA during the presidential elections.

The only trait that is a problem with Kenyans and is causing discomfort among its neighbors is the domineering nature, it is true to say that Kenyans see themselves superior than their neighbors! Visiting general forums indicate that Kenyans see themselves superior and no other country can out do them. They will argue, to show the rest that they have the best road network, best education systems, best constitution, best airports, best and advanced army in the region and many more. This habit is making Kenyans not to be accepted easily by others in the EAC especially from Tanzania.

Although corruption is a major problem in Africa, Kenyans are the most vocal on corruption. When they get a topic on corruption they are very fast to give their comments, but still anytime a Kenyan is given a post in leadership in the public circus, they always follow in the line of corruption, someone wonders, do Kenyans really hate corruption or are they hypocritical about it!

But i will agree with Kenyans, Kenya has great minds and aggressive population that with chance will see prosperity in the generations to come.
