Vocational education is a practical skill and real- world application over theoretical knowledge involves hands approach. In schools it's like planting for the future careers by introducing various trades and professions to students. It's about giving kids skills that can use in their livelihood, it's about cooking, carpentry, or cosmetology. It's education that is tailored to fit individuals interests and talents meeting there purpose of each student, preparing them for life.
Vocational education is essential in our primary and secondary schools and it should be given priority. In country like Tanzania Vocational education enhancing economic diversification, providing employment opportunities immediately after graduation, creating skilled workforce and support industries growth that align with Tanzania vision of 2025 for industrial development, creating global competitiveness and enhancing innovation and entrepreneurship. Traditional academic education teaches students on how to do things in the world.
Vocational education is a powerful tool to poverty reduction its like learning to earning and we are able to see emerging and developing country like china investing on vocational education and be able to reduce poverty. Vocational education empowering individuals with confidence and capability of being able to lift themselves and their communities out of poverty.
The Vocational education face challenges even if , it has been applied in some of secondary schools in Tanzania but not much emphasis has been put to place and the process of learning is not integrated. Also, the schools that provide Vocational still face the problem of facilities to be used and this is the challenge that affect most of the schools and led to diffulties, unfriendly environment, there is low understanding of the importance of vocational education among the educators, overcrowded classroom has also been a challenge and hence leads to difficulties in providing hand approach education, inadequate of teachers motivation due to unfavorable working conditions, students are not motivated hence low cooperation among students, unsatisfactory coordination among management structure and inadequate to clear guidelines hence leads to inconsistent and confusion in the vocational education. Due to the challenges, graduates that have been developed, and failed to continue with studies leads to difficulties in having sustainable means to earning a living.
WHAT SHOULD BE DONE FOR A VISION OF HELTHIER FUTURE ?
Firstly, Tanzania government should invest and providing more emphasis in vocational education:
By providing of reasonable resources, supporting vocational teachers by providing a satisfying environment for the teachers to love there jobs and training to ensure that they have enough job experiences and knowledge. The vocational teachers should have the opportunity of participating to the workshops and industrial visits to gain skills and knowledge about the labor market needs.
Secondly, Early provisioning of vocational education to children will hence involvement of children and be able to show there abilities. It will reduce ignorance to students who tend to emotionally accept vocational education but behaviourly don't act upon vocational education due to the mentality they have about vocational education. So, education should be provided to both parents and students that vocational training is respectable and viable education path.
Thirdly, development of education curriculum
The vocational curriculum should be updated to align with the current industry standards and market needs in future and it should be able to be applied in both public and private schools. The school's heads should also be creative and cooperative in designing and planning different vocational activities.
Fourthly, the vocational training should be integrated with modern technology to prepare children to technologically advance workforce and teachers should have trainings to incorporate with the new technology that it has been invented.
Fifthly, provisioning of quality assurance🙂;
Sytems for evaluating and monitoring should be introduced to ensure high standards and continuous improvement of the vocational program. The presence of effective fixed timetable of vocational education to ensure if it is integrated and followed. Responsible organs should be introduced to ensure rhe quality education is provided by visiting schools daily and checking the progress attained.
sixthly, Students should be reduced to teacher ratios or the students should be divided in groups in odder to ensure effective skills training. This will enable students to be able to understand what have been taught and it should be easy for teachers to supervise.
Seventhly, Awareness campaign should be introduced to raise public awareness about the value and the importance of vocational education to the country's economic development.
By using the above steps, I do believe that Tanzanian will be able to strengthen the vocational education system, reduce poverty and drive to sustainable development.
