Instead of filling up all spaces in Dar with skyscrapers, let us be more creative and dedicate a space to history. Tanzania has played a commendable role in the liberation of Africa, whose negative economic effects are still being perceived in our economy today. Yet, such elephantine sacrifices are rarely physically recognized in our cities.
It is high time we immortalized our sacrifices by devising something that can be seen by eyes in our big cities. To start with, let's start by conseptualizing a theme park in the centre of Dar es Salaam whose remit should be a depiction of leaders who were involved in the struggle of blackman/African emancipation, including the liberation of Southern Africa.
A 1000+ life-sized bronze or copper statues to pay homage to the likes of Nyerere, Kaunda, Mandela, Oliver Tambo, Winnie Mandela, Ngouabi, Lumumba, Nkrumah, Kenyatta, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Malcolm X, Haile Selassie, Imhotep, Mansa Musa, Queen Nefertiti, Queen Sheba, Marcus Garvey, Zumbi, Queen Nzinga, Martin Luther King, Steve Biko, Thomas Sankara, Cheikh Anta Diop, Toussaint L’Ouverture, Amilcar Cabral, Dedan Kimathi, Wole Soyinka, Gamal Abdel Nasser, Rosa Parks, Ali Mazrui, Walter Rodney, Franz Fannon, Ahmed Baba, Hamilton Naki,Tafewa Balewa, Hendrik Witbooi, Luambo Lwanzo Makiadi, Bob Marley, Zinedin Zidan..... the list is inexhaustible.
Do that, and you will have lots lots of tourists, more that the Royal Tour could ever generate. For, these will be African, Caribbean, Asian and European tourists.
It will be educative even to us....as I dare say very few can manage to identify even 10 of those names I have listed above!
