Top 100 companies in Africa,By Revenue

That's not a valid argument. EVERY single company that pays taxes to the government it is required to prepare FINANCIAL STATEMENTS which are audited by reputable auditing companies.

Most of these statements are available to the publishers of these lists. Besides, if you personally wanted to know how much METL, Mount Meru or Bakhresa make in a year, you would probably do so within a day. It's not rocket science.

Vodacom Tanzania eyes more spectrum after solid annual earnings growth
Fumbuka Ng'wanakilala
DAR ES SALAAM, May 11 (Reuters) - Vodacom Tanzania reported a 6 percent rise in full year pretax earnings on Friday, helped by the launch of cheaper smartphones, and said it plans to buy additional spectrum to boost internet services.

Vodacom Tanzania, majority owned by South Africa’s Vodacom Group, said in a statement that EBITDA rose to 266.4 billion shillings ($117 million) in the year through March, as new, cheaper smartphones helped drive a 35 percent jump in revenue from mobile data to 141.6 billion shillings.

Service revenue increased 6 percent from a year earlier to 966.3 billion shillings, while income from mobile money payment services rose 17 percent to 291.2 billion shillings.

Voice revenue fell 6 percent to 392.3 billion shillings following a decision by Tanzania’s telecoms regulator in January to cut the mobile termination rate, a fee operators pay each other for calls made from one network to another.

“Vodacom has filed an appeal with the Fair Competition Commission against the regulator’s decision to impose a 42.1 percent reduction in the mobile termination rate,” Vodacom Tanzania’s Managing Director Ian Ferrao told investors on a conference call.

“We are seeing some pressure on voice revenue ... data pricing also needs to be repaired, but this will depend on how our competitors act.”

Vodacom controls has around a 32 percent market share of the country’s 40 million mobile subscribers. Other major players include Tigo Tanzania, a subsidiary of Sweden’s Millicom , and a local unit of India’s Bharti Airtel .

Ferrao said Vodacom plans to take part in Tanzania’s first spectrum auction expected to be held next month, aiming to acquire an additional 700 MHz of spectrum that would enable the mobile operator to roll out 4G services to more towns and cities in East Africa’s third-biggest economy.

Acacia Mining Profit Up As Gold Prices Rise

Acacia Mining profit in the first half of 2016 have soared as gold prices and sales surged while operating costs fell.

The gold mining company, which operates three mines in Tanzania, said in a statement its earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation for the six months to June 30 rose 91 per cent to 184.9 million US dollars, helped by lower costs and higher gold sales.

The gold miner, said it was now expecting to deliver at or above the upper end of the full year production guidance of 750,000 - 780,000 ounces and at the lower end of all in sustaining costs of 950-980 US dollars per ounce.

Revenue rose 58.2m US dollars to 504.9m US dollars due to a 13 per cent increase in gold sales volumes combined with a 1 per cent increase in the average realised gold price to 1,209 US dollar. The increase in sales ounces was due to the higher production base, Acacia said.

"As we move into the second half of 2016, we expect a step up in production at Buzwagi with grade increasing each quarter until the end of the year as mining is re-established in the main zone of the ore body," the company said.

"At North Mara and Bulyanhulu we expect smaller contributions in the second half with North Mara quarterly production normalising below the Q2 2016 level." "At Bulyanhulu we will see a lowering of the average grade mined to in line with the reserve grade.

This, together with a planned two week shutdown of the hoisting shaft for refurbishment in August, will lead to Q3 2016 being in line with Q3 2015 before increasing again in Q4."

"Looking further forward we continue to look to optimise our portfolio and are focused on value enhancing brownfields extensions at Bulyanhulu and North Mara, as well as assessing our options at Buzwagi.

We continue to invest in our high quality exploration portfolio and believe it holds the potential to host our next mine."

Tanzania's METL Group eyes Africa expansion as middle class grows
Fumbuka Ng'wanakilala
DAR ES SALAAM (Reuters) - Manufacturing and trading firm Mohammed Enterprises Tanzania Ltd, one of the country’s biggest private employers, said on Friday it would invest $250 million to expand its business in Africa to capitalise on a growing middle class demand.

Chief Executive Officer Mohammed Dewji also told Reuters he was upbeat about prospects in Tanzania, whose economy has been growing at about 7 percent a year and which he said could accelerate to 10 percent as natural gas finds were exploited.

Despite the global financial crisis, African economies have recorded some of the fastest growth rates outside Asia, creating a bigger middle class and drawing local and foreign investment.

“Our vision is that by 2020/21, we want to be a $5 billion revenue company,” said the CEO of the firm also known as METL Group. Revenue was expected to reach $1.9 billion in 2014/15.

Regarding plans to invest $250 million over two years, Dewji said: “Half of this ... will be our equity and the other half will be raised through banks.”

Tanzania’s capital market authorities have been trying to encourage family-owned firms like METL Group to list, saying it would offer cheaper financing. But many such firms are reluctant to cede control to outside shareholders.

“I don’t see us listing on the stock exchange in the near future,” said Dewji. “We are still building the company.”

The company operates in 11 African nations, mostly in east Africa, including Kenya and Uganda, as well central and southern states such as the Democratic Republic of Congo and Mozambique.

“We want to expand our presence in countries such as Zambia, Mozambique, Rwanda, Burundi, Madagascar and Ethiopia,” he said, adding the focus for investment would be in manufacturing, particularly cotton, without giving further details. The group already has cotton mills in Mozambique and Zambia.

Established in the 1970s, the firm has more than 30 factories making consumer products ranging from bicycles and detergents to edible oil and beverages. Other investments cover the agriculture, infrastructure, energy and mobile phone sectors.

Dewji said a growing middle class was driving demand.

“Over the last decade, Tanzania for example has recorded an annual formal growth of 7 percent. I think, informally, we are growing at a much faster pace,” he said, a reference to the large number of unregistered businesses and informal workers.

He said large offshore gas finds could lift growth further.

METL employs 24,000 mostly in Tanzania. Dewji said he expected this to rise to more than 100,000 in five years.
