Exports from Africa were worth US$327.7 billion in 2016 down by -50.4% since 2012. Year over year, African sales of exported products retreated -15.4% from 2015 to 2016.
Africa’s exports represent an estimated 2.1% of total world exports which were an estimated $15.862 trillion during 2016.
Based on statistics from the International Monetary Fund’s World Economic Outlook Database, the total Gross Domestic Product for African countries amounted to roughly $6.037 trillion in 2016. Therefore, exports account for about 5.4% of Africa’s total economic output.
Given Africa’s population of about 1.138 billion people, the total $327.7 billion in 2016 African exports translates to roughly $288 for every person on the continent
