Chiefs To Face Young Africans In The Toyota Cup​


African football giants are set to clash this month in the inaugural Toyota Cup, a brand-new annual tournament launched in partnership with Kaizer Chiefs Football Club and Toyota South Africa Motors.

This innovative pre-season cup competition will be hosted and contested by Kaizer Chiefs FC. South Africa’s largest football brand will go head-to-head against some of the continent’s best clubs over the next three years as part of an extension to their existing sponsorship with the automaker.

For its first edition, played at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein on Sunday, July 28th at 3:00 PM, the mighty Amakhosi will face Tanzania’s most successful team, Young Africans Sporting Club. This promises to be a unique celebration of African football talent.

Ahead of the main event, football fans in Bloemfontein will have the chance to reminisce with a curtain-raiser match between Kaizer Chiefs and Bloemfontein Celtic legends, kicking off at 12:30 PM.

The legends’ match, along with the main clash, will also honor the late Nate Petrus Molemela, Life President of Bloemfontein Celtic, and the football-loving people of Mangaung.

Fans are guaranteed a day of entertainment beyond the two matches. Live performances by renowned artists and an exciting prize giveaway await them. One lucky fan will leave the Toyota Stadium with a brand-new Toyota Corolla Cross XI CVT worth over R400,000!

Speaking at the launch event, Leon Theron, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Toyota South Africa Motors, emphasized the brand’s commitment to its loyal customer base. “The launch of this unique cup signifies our dedication to our customers, who share a strong passion for sport,” said Theron. “This innovative event further underscores our commitment to engaging with our customers in South Africa and across the continent. We look forward to a memorable 2024 Toyota Cup in partnership with Kaizer Chiefs and Young Africans.”

Sharing Toyota’s enthusiasm, Kaizer Chiefs’ Marketing and Commercial Director, Jessica Motaung, highlighted the tournament’s alignment with the Club’s strategic goals. “We are excited to launch this groundbreaking initiative with Toyota. The Kaizer Chiefs brand is built on a rich history of contributing not only to South African football but also to the ever-growing African football scene,” said Motaung.

“In Yanga, we’ve found a partner whose brand values align with our own. Through the Toyota Cup, we look forward to working together to elevate African football.”

Young Africans SC President Hersi Ally Said expressed his gratitude to both Toyota and Chiefs. “We are honored to receive this invitation to participate in the Toyota Cup 2024,” Said commented.

“This match builds on the relationship between our two great African teams, which began last year with our invitation to Chiefs for the Wiki Ya Mwananchi friendly match. We are excited to deliver a competitive match that will prepare us for the upcoming 2024/25 season.”

Notably, both Said and Motaung hold positions within the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) African Club Association (ACA) as President and Vice President, respectively.

The Toyota Cup match serves as a testament to the importance of collaboration between African clubs, a key objective of the ACA, to grow club football on the continent.

Miamba wa soka barani Afrika wanatazamiwa kumenyana mwezi huu katika uzinduzi wa Toyota Cup, mashindano mapya kabisa ya kila mwaka yaliyozinduliwa kwa ushirikiano wa Klabu ya Soka ya Kaizer Chiefs na Toyota ya Afrika Kusini Motors.

Mashindano haya ya kibunifu ya kombe la pre-season yataandaliwa na kushindaniwa na Kaizer Chiefs FC. Chapa kubwa zaidi ya kandanda nchini Afrika Kusini itapambana na baadhi ya vilabu bora zaidi barani humo katika kipindi cha miaka mitatu ijayo kama sehemu ya ufadhili wao uliopo na kampuni ya kutengeneza magari.

Kwa toleo lake la kwanza, lililochezwa kwenye Uwanja wa Toyota mjini Bloemfontein Jumapili, Julai 28 saa 3:00 Usiku, Amakhosi hao watamenyana na timu yenye mafanikio zaidi ya Tanzania, Young Africans Sporting Club. Hii inaahidi kuwa sherehe ya kipekee ya vipaji vya soka barani Afrika.

Kabla ya tukio kuu, mashabiki wa soka mjini Bloemfontein watakuwa na fursa ya kukumbushana mechi ya kufungua pazia kati ya Kaizer Chiefs na magwiji wa Bloemfontein Celtic, itakayoanza saa 12:30 jioni.

Mechi ya magwiji hao, pamoja na pambano kuu, pia itampa heshima marehemu Nate Petrus Molemela, Rais wa Maisha wa Bloemfontein Celtic, na watu wapenda soka wa Mangaung.

“Tunafuraha kuzindua mpango huu wa kipekee na Toyota. Chapa ya Kaizer Chiefs imejengwa juu ya historia nzuri ya kuchangia sio tu kwa kandanda ya Afrika Kusini lakini pia katika uwanja wa kandanda wa Afrika unaoendelea kukua,” alisema Motaung.

“Yanga tumepata mshirika ambaye maadili ya chapa yake yanaendana na sisi wenyewe. Kupitia Kombe la Toyota, tunatarajia kufanya kazi pamoja ili kuinua soka la Afrika.”


Rais wa Young Africans SC Hersi Ally Said alitoa shukrani zake kwa Toyota na Chiefs. "Tuna heshima kupokea mwaliko huu wa kushiriki katika Toyota Cup 2024," Said alitoa maoni.

“Mechi hii inajenga uhusiano kati ya timu zetu mbili kubwa za Afrika, iliyoanza mwaka jana kwa mwaliko wetu kwa Chiefs kwa ajili ya mchezo wa kirafiki wa Wiki Ya Mwananchi. Tunafuraha kutoa mechi ya ushindani ambayo itatuandaa kwa msimu ujao wa 2024/25.”

Mechi ya Kaizer Chiefs Vs Yanga itapigwa lini na wapi ?

Kombe la kwanza la Toyota Cup litafanyika Julai 28, 2024, kwenye Uwanja wa Toyota mjini Bloemfontein.

Hii inatoa uwanja (neutral) usio na upande wowote kwa pambano hilo na kuwaruhusu mashabiki wa Bloemfontein nafasi ya kushuhudia soka ya kiwango cha juu.
