It's the same way you'd have asked this question that: why were we building a railway and yet we had an already passable road connecting Mombasa and Nairobi or direct flights btn the two towns.Sasa watu mna SGR yenye uwezo wa kubeba watu toka Mombasa mpaka Nairobi, hii superhighway ya nini sasa? Hivi kweli there is economic activities which require these kinds of infrastructures?

It's called diversification and this is meant to take care of varied needs of the Kenyan citizenry. Do you know that there are people who are obsessed with their machines and they wouldn't want either of the above public means?. It only sounds silly to you and people of your ilk. Whether you are a third world country or not you have to go with the modern world trend. It's just like telling me that a slum dweller in Tandale is not allowed to enjoy the Sandy beaches of dar even if its on occasional treat. Nor are they allowed to take pizza or barbecue simply because is a preserve for the leafy suburbs dwellers, nkt!...It is silly to compare a third world country's economy like Kenya with the economies in the developed world. Let's not kid ourselves, Kenya has scarce resources and millions of her people are struggling to make ends meet. Frankly, it doesn't make no sense economically to spend huge amounts of money in projects that the country doesn't momentarily needs. Remember, your government had to pass a rule to force businesses to utilize SGR in shipping cargo from the Port of Mombasa to other parts of the country. This was done in order to ensure that there is enough cargo for SGR viability; in fact, if this move was not done the SGR would have been in trouble.therwise they wouldn't have enough cargo for the SGR.
So, if you don't have enough cargo for the SGR why then Uhuru wants superhighway? It is also important to remember that Kenya foreign debt is growing astronomically and soon or later your kids or grand kids will have to pay.I don't understand why any reasonable person would support this nonsense.
