Tanzania Telecommunications Company Ltd (TTCL) on Monday signed a new contract with Avanti Communications Group PLC to expand high speed broadband.

The contract will see TTCL expand high-speed broadband network to customers beyond the bounds of fibre infrastructure.

Under the deal, TTCL will supply a new satellite broadband offering to its consumer, enterprise and government customer base imminently, deployed via Avanti's HYLAS 2 satellite with 100 percent coverage of Tanzania.

Chief Executive of TTCL, Kamugisha Kazaura said the technology will improve TTCL services which are currently in high demand by institutions which depend on internet.

"Avanti's proven Ka-band satellite technology will deliver high-speed broadband to our national customer base, which demands the highest levels of service quality," he said.

"We look forward to addressing Tanzania's immediate digital divide challenges via this growing partnership," read a statement provided by Avant in London.

In London, Avanti shares were gaining 1.93 percent to trade at 228.32 pence today morning.
